Should I buy a BRZ or should I wait for the next Gen?
There may be a similar thread to this already but I want to describe my exact situation to get accurate advice. I want a track car that I can drive every once in a while on streets, just as a fun car to take to canyons and track days while keeping my daily driver nice and healthy. I've decided on the BRZ for the weight and for the modification possibilities. But heres my dilemma: Buy a BRZ now or wait until the next gen? If I buy it now, I'm going to get a used BRZ and put the money i saved into a supercharger and some aero, but if I wait for the next gen, my budget will probably limit me from buying many mods. But then again, the next version will probably be faster and need less mods. Theres no real chance of me selling the car and buying the next gen once it comes out since i would lose so much money on the mods I'm putting into it. AHHH. What should i do guys?

It is not likely that the next gen will be faster than a current gen with a supercharger. Much like the Miata, the BRZ/FRS are likely only to undergo small changes. New bumpers. Different Bushings. Reworked intake for 5hp. Marginal things like this.
All assumptions, but collectively shared by many here. |

I'd just grab a used, cheaper one now. I'm sure the money you'd save will be much more useful than spending much more for a new one with slightly subtle changes.
Unless this car started selling with upgraded factory performance like a turbo or supercharger, there's no point in buying new.

Here we go again.
For the 800th time, do not wait for the 2nd gen. Don't do it. Why? Because the third gen won't be far behind and it will come standard with a sizeable turbo. Search motoring.au, it's all there.

With the KERS drive system on the next gen, all you will need is a bigger capacitor package to have yourself a baby 918. I'm working on a retrofit package in my garage for people that want to upgrade their gen 1 cars, but the engineering is running over budget. So far, I have burned up 2 pencils, a calculator battery and a spiral bound pad. Gonna make the jump to a solar powered calculator next.

Wait for AWD Turbo/Supercharged STI definitely, I hear it will be out next year only and then replaced with a hybrid so better save your monies up for it now so you can pay dealer markup and not miss out on maximum performance and maximizing your dollars and owning all the other guys who couldn't wait like you could because your the best and you have the very best and you drive flat out.

If you already DD something else, I would vote against the FR-S/BRZ, and recommend the 2016 Miata instead (or a used S2000 if you're feeling adventurous, but expect to spend a lot of coin for a nice one). The twins are great if you can only have one car because of their practicality, but for a dedicated track toy or canyon carver, a roadster is more fun.
Also if you think this car needs 300HP (already thinking of supercharger?!), get something else. |

I'm thinking about trading in my 2 month old FRS for a new BRZ. Opinions?

Is it really French?
Are French Fries really French? Those two are the most important questions that face humanity today. |
