Top mount

Has anyone heard of or tried a basic wrx turbo set up? I understand that the top mount is a problem with our hood, which is why I'm throwing out there that I would be running the seibon hood which is similar to the wrx hood with the scoop. Also turbo placement would be a pain, but I'm thinking that a smaller battery or replacement of the battery would fix this. Just wondering if any one has tried this or thought about it? If you have what problems have you came up with? I really want to do this for the smaller length of intercooler piping and quicker spool time.

Like this?

in theory its possible, no one has tried it or produced one that I am aware of. I've thought about this before, for a while actually.

Problems I have run into:
-Hood needs to clear TMIC
-TMIC needs to have ample space between intake mani
-standard turbo placement would be the only place I can think of to put the turbo (low mount)

Other than that, Im sure its very do-able. So long as the hood and inter cool clear their respective areas.

Top mount

Yea that hood would work but I was thinking of this one

Space between the intercooler shouldn't be a problem. I don't think at least, if it is steal a homo mod from Hondas and space the hood?

Turbo placement is the problem I've been thinking about that's why I put the battery options out there.

And spacing between the manifold could be solved by proper brackets right?

Brackets, yes.
the only reason I would place the turbo as a low mount is simply because this engine bay loves to cook like an oven. Taking out the heat from the turbo not only frees up space, but keeps the engine heat down. A moddified PTuning kit comes to mind when I think about a TMIC kit. Just re rout the piping to the top and space the cooler accordingly, make sure the hood fits and see how it goes.

As far as piping goes ( if I made it this far) I was just gonna take my car to nameless performance or to Speedware motorsports and get them to do the exhaust manifold and intercooler piping. But please explain this PTuning kit.

With that being said how bout a rotate mount set up? Would that be able to work?

I'm not too familiar with rotated mount style setups, but the PTuning kit...:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...hlight=PTuning
the inter cooling piping is complex, but if it was to be a TMIC, potentially pull the engine a little forward (if needed) to run the piping down the back to the turbo and make sure everything fits. If you want to spend the money, get a PTuning kit and go to a shop and ask to make custom short piping so it will fit as a TMIC.

I don't know how well that inter cooler will fit, as it's pretty horizontally friendly. You may be better off buying a turbo and a more square IC then having a shop fab the piping to your specs, then adding all the trinkets at the end.

Working on it. Should be done by mid spring (Tax time) Im going to more than likely use the seibon hood . Theres plenty of space between the hood and my tmic which is about 4-5in thick with the oem hood so the added space with the scoop will be even better. Turbo will be mounted near battery and actually has a bunch of space there too. Had to move the harness around a bit but no biggie. Now im just trying to solidify the intercooler piping. Ive been snowed out of the shop for a while now but these pics merged together are pretty much what im going for.

Lol I was going to say, that last pic looks really busy are you developing it with a upgraded radiator? That is one stubby IC lol. Curious on turbo specs

I wanted to go with the tmic specifically to keep the stock radiator from being blocked by a giant intercooler. Im hoping the turbo location, along with the vents on the seibon hood, my charge pipes not crossing the hotside of the turbo, and the fact that im not sandwiching my radiator with a turbo and intercooler, will spare me from the heat issues many have been experiencing. Im still debating on whether or not to use the stock airbox as well but doing so may make the piping a bit more complicated.

What turbo and tmic are you going with? I'm gonna use my buddies td04 to start off and not sure on intercooler yet.

Did you end up purchasing this hood? Also, is this hood painted black in this picture or is this the carbon look. Looks more black to me.
