Power window broke itself..

So it is the first day of freezing temperatures here in Washington state and of course this is when I find out that the feature that I had always though was dumb would actually cause an actual issue. You know how you open your door and the window rolls down a little bit? Well this turns out to be an issue when your windows are frozen solid and wont roll down. So what does it do? It breaks itself of course. So now my CEL is on and my window switches are flashing. And to top it all off, when you open the door the window does kind of a half crack but when you close the door it doesnt roll back up.. Needless to say I am frustrated. It makes me wonder why I bought a new car when crap like this happens.. Oh well off to the dealership I go with all of that spare time I have

Dreder- here's a hint, read the manual for the solution.

As said above, the manual says how to reset the window controls when this happens. That's great, but your windows need to be thawed out for this reset function to be performed as it involved rolling you windows down all the way. I ended up having to leave my windows open about an inch a few days at work because they wouldn't go down to reset and wouldn't go back up until a reset was performed.

The real solution is to go to your dealer and have the freezing windows TSB performed. They redesigned some of the window components in 2014 as a running production line change and will change them out along with the switches to reflect new programming. It completely fixed this issue for me, and I dealt with a pretty nasty east coast Canadian winter last year.

FYI, this has nothing to do with your CEL. It just makes your switches blink.

Thank you for the help. Its nice to get an actual response instead of READ THE MANUAL!!!!!!

Seriously isnt this a forum to discus things about the car? If navanod wouldnt have told me about his experience with this issue then I would have never known that there was a TSB and that this can be updated..

People need to get of there high horse and maybe try being positive about helping people rather than being ****heads.

To be fair, there are tons of threads on this already, and the tsb list is stickied.

You are correct. I am also reading the manual as we speak. I just wish people wouldnt be so grouchy about it.

Its a lot easier to type a few words vs an essay. You're welcome.

I'm sure there was a TSB regarding this issue.

That feature is required to run the glass with out the frame. The glass could very well blow out if you slammed the door with the windows up.

I wouldn't go that far. I'm pretty sure it's to minimize the sudden pressure, which can cause discomfort to the ear.

None of the previous subarus with frameless windows had this auto-down feature.

Mine just did it this morning... But its not just frameless window cars either my TC was notorious for this shit. Maybe I should quit smoking and I wouldn't care.

Ya that open the window an inch can be fun!
Biggest pain is when they freeze shut (on any car) and it is time for your morning drive through coffee visit! Gotta do the old open the door and reach around trick.
