Noise while slowing to a stop

I have been hearing this faint sound every time I slow to a halt. Sounds like some pump/fan spooling up and then stopping. Lasts for a few seconds. Any idea what it could be?

I will try to capture it on video/audio sometime today evening.

Are you putting it into first as you're slowing down with the clutch in? If so, what you're probably hearing is the faint whine of the gears as the synchros force the transmission input shaft up to a higher speed. (In 1st, the input shaft is at a shorter ratio to the output shaft, thus engaging 1st at a given speed requires a higher rpm).

Or in other words, it's normal, nothing to be concerned about.

I don't think it's that because it started fairly recently. Most times I don't even hear it because I have the radio going.

Maybe it is the A/C compressor running for a really short time? I wasn't running the A/C this morning and I heard nothing.

Does it sound like a chuttering/puffing sound sort of?

I've noticed when I have the AC on that when I come to a stop sometimes my revs drop to 500ish rpm, then flare up to 850ish before settling back down to a normal idle.

With the windows down and no radio on, it sounds strange.

Do you have a manual transmission? If so I'd guess flywheel/clutch rattle.

If manual - flywheel

If auto - an automatic transmission being an automatic

I did some more testing and this is it. I think I didn't hear it before because I got the car in fall of last year and the last couple of weeks are the first time I have extensively used the A/C.
