Confused about dollar conversion
I'm having trouble figuring out the conversion from the Canadian dollar to U.S. dollar. There seem to be a few people selling used "custom" rims in the classifieds for thousands more than they are new. Maybe it is a great deal? Did the Canadian dollar just recently drop or go up, how does this work?
Also, is it normal to spend $5-6k on rims/tires now? |

Yes it is perfect normal to spend 5 or 6 thousand US dollars in fact I have some very happy good rims I sell you for good price but only today $4000 US dollars for you all I need from you is bank account number social security number and date of your birthday then I ship to you please contact me right away so that you don't miss out on this extra super good deal!!!
 Seriously though. I don't know. That sounds really expensive. I live thirty minutes from the border and it seems like the tide of weekend shoppers changes every few years, but not by much. They are currently flooding across for milk and gasoline but that could change any day...

According to xe.com, USD:CAD is 1:1.246. CAD:USD is 1:0.802. So a USD $1600 set of wheels is CAD $1994. Not counting import duties or taxes.

Pricing Analyst here.
International conversion rates can fluctuate at any time. There are plenty of online tools to convert one currency into another. If you just type into google "USD to EURO" or similar, it will bring up a mini interface to enter the quantity of each and you can get the conversion rate. Not sure how often their rates are updated but i'm sure it's good enough for personal use. |

Those are illegal in Canada so are worth quite a bit on the black market. "Mingos" as they are called display them in secret on small patches of grass grown in low wide pots like a bonsai tree.

$4-6k is ridiculous. I got real Work rims with Michelin PSS for ~$3000 Canadian 2 years ago.
The exchange rate is not that bad, I would shop locally.
