iPhone Screen Mirroring

Hi,

I have a Scion FRS 2016 with the Pioneer radio without the Bespoke navigation system.

I can see the video of its rear camera, but how can I mirror my iPhone's screen in the radio's screen? Is there a way? What do I need to buy?

Thanks in advance!!

If memory serves, there isn't really a way to do this as there is no direct connection on the back that would allow this. All stock signal is done through the harness via the wiring.

Even on CarPlay enabled radios, screen mirroring isn't a standard option. Those who have gone about making it work have used aftermarket radios with HDMI interfaces to the radio's HDMI source input.

Be aware that if you do end up going that route, the mirrored screen will not be controlled at all through the head unit. You will still be using your phone for everything.

While I don't want to say it can't be done, but I have a feeling that there's a lot more software involved rather than just connecting a few wires. I say, buy a headunit with CarPlay then try to solve it on your OEM one before you extend past the return policy deadline. It would be badass if you got that working.

The rear view camera connection is something like 16 pins, a + / - and 1 yellow RCA jack for the view feed. Sooooo who knows..

This is just off the top of my head.

Buy this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0732NF969...a-350155148159

Get a Lighting(iPhone) to HDMI adapter and instead of having your Headunit connected to the rear view camera, plug it into that device.

I'm almost positive that on 1 of those 16 pins is connected to the ECU so that when you shift to reverse, it triggers a signal on the headunit to display the input from the rear view camera harness. So, find that wire by looking up the wiring diagrams and if you do find it. Just tap an ignition controlled lead wire into it and BOOM, you're done. Head unit will constantly think the car is in reverse, thus displaying the input from the rear view camera, which is actually the output from your phone and just like that you're done.

But now that i think about it, the touch screen won't work, there won't be any audio and your car will likely catch on fire if you do any of what I said.

Yeah, don't do any of that. It's not that straight forward when using factory wiring, there aren't just RCA connectors on the back like aftermarket headunits have, you would not have any control over the radio functions anymore, your phone would discharge quickly outputting to HDMI constantly, and in the end you'd have butchered up the factory harness for nothing.

Your closest option is a CarPlay enabled radio and a Lightning to HDMI converter, although you wouldn't have touchscreen controls, and the phone still wouldn't charge.
