Is this a normal sound?

I might sound like an idiot here asking this, but I don't know if a brand new car should sound like this as I have never owned a subaru of any kind and all my other cars have been quiet.

Well, this brand new car does sound like that.

I believe most of the chitty-chatter is associated with the direct injection....

This is what DI sounds like. You're not used to this b/c all your other cars have been port or throttle body (for older cars) injection only.

Even the chirps are normal. What we describe as crickets is when this sound's volume increases greatly such that it is quite audible outside the car with the hood closed and the windows rolled up. So, chirps alone aren't a bad sign anyway. Crickets aren't even bad, they can just get annoying.

Welcome to direct injection. Let me play you the song of my people.
