10 series headlights into frs

Hey guys I have followed the DIY available and other threads, what I did was repin the wires into the frs harness. all (6 wires). Also unplugged the DRL resistor. but the DRL does not light up during the day, only when the lights are turned on for the night the led strip and HID turn on. I'm not sure what wiring I've missed.

Please help me! Thanks

10 series headlights into frs

If I'm reading this right, to get the DRL to work you only unplugged the resistor? You also need to run a wire from the DRL fuse to the pin which powers the LED. The 6 pins will only turn it on with parking lights and headlights on.

Edit: see this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60073

So the LED strips are only turning on with Parking lights and Highbeam? Low beam as well?

Thanks for this, I guess I'll have to try that. What wire is he tapping on the headlight itself?

I don't know the setup for the10 series, but it would be whichever pin corresponds to the parking+ wire in the frs harness (pin 6)

Would it just be possible to remove the Parking+ Wire pin from the FRS side harness and draw power from the 12V where the resistor on the passenger side used to be?

I thought (maybe I misread somewhere) you could put 10 Series on a regular FR-S by repinning like you've done and the DRL LEDs would work during the day.

However, the car cannot be in park or with ebrake up. That is how the 10 Series/Monograms work.

It doesn't light up with ebrake down and not in park

Yes, the easiest way would probably be to remove the LED power pin on the Headlight connector side, and then wire that directly to the DRL power supply (as shown in the thread linked above). Then, the LED would work like a DRL. I am not sure if this means that the LED will switch off when the headlights are switched on though. Maybe someone who has done the 86 light conversion can clarify.

My understanding is that the 10 series/monogram are wired differently, so they have a low beam, high beam wire, and then a wire which powers the LEDs as a DRL seperately. A regular FRS in its headlight harness has three power sources: Low beam, High beam, and parking (which the FRS stock lights don't actually use, but it is still there), all of which are controlled by the headlight stalk (the stock DRLs actually are the high beam halogens run at a lower voltage or something). So to get the LED to work as a DRL you must tap something which is on normally without turning the switch on the stalk, like either the DRL fuse (and unplug the resistor), or tap a 12 volt source which is always hot (like the cigarette lighter behind the glove box).

Yes the LED switches off when the headlights are switched on, I tried wiring it like that.

In that case, if you want it on as a DRL and on with headlights there are two options.

1. Wire it to a constant 12 volt source when the car is on. Basically tap a power source like is done here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27813. If you do it this way, the lights will be on when the key is in the acc position as well, so if you are sitting in the car listening to the radio it the lights will be on too. If you want it to turn off when the ebrake is pulled, you can add a relay like I show in this post: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=70

2. Probably an easier way to do this would be to pull the parking + pin from the harness, connect the DRL 12 volt to the back of that pin, then return the pin to the harness. This way, the DRL power will power the LED during the day, and when you turn on the headlights, the power will kick in from the parking light source. You could put a diode on the DRL wire and the parking wire to ensure each doesn't effect the other in some weird way, but I am not sure that is necessary.

I'm assuming you mean this then

10 Series headlight side/FRS body side
High beam + = High Beam +
High beam GND = High Beam GND
Low beam + = Low Beam +
Low beam GND = Low Beam GND
LED + = Harness pin connecting to DRL power source
LED GND = Parking GND
Nothing = Loose Parking + pin

Or did you mean to pin the Loose Parking + pin with the Harness pin connecting to the DRL source. If this is the case, I'm not exactly sure if the LED's will be handle the amount of juice its getting if you are running the DRL and Press the high beams as both sources would be providing power to the LED's.

I meant to connect them both to the LED. I don't recall if the DRLs turn off with the parking lights on (I had mine shut off almost immediately by the dealership). Probably be a good idea to test with a volt meter before actually plugging into the lights. It might require something like this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50790
