Check out the Japan site! SIICCKK!!!

http://toyota.jp/86/index.html

I didnt understand what was what... I did select tabs along the left side bars to stroll through to see the options for The Toyota 86. All I can say is that the Japanese version of the 86 with what options they offer is ridiculous. FR-S is SHIT comapred to over there. Japan really knows how to make me and some of our other members here upset. Example: color options for seating, standard navi/radio, standard push start. Damn, they even make an RC version that is base of base... Where you can do your own work for a possible track car. I'll show more later on tonight where Ill post some pics of the different models. Check out this album below...

Toyota 86 GT Limited

Toyota 86 GT

Toyota 86 G

Toyota 86 RC

I did what I think was a rough comparison. Decked out like the BRZ Limited, the rough estimate was $42k for the same car, minus the 86's extra's like auto mirror, auto light leveling, and some other crap I can't remember.

Is the 86's Limited LSD the same as in the US? That seemed to be a special thing? Also I went with the cheapest of their nav systems, wow what options they have!

One way Toyota keeps the FR-S cost so low (around $25k) is by bulk-producing in monospec. It's like Costco bulk cheap. The stripped down R-spec 86 is over $25k and an 86 upgraded with premium 17" wheels and optional LSD (all standard on the FR-S) would probably cost closer to $27-28k USD. Dollar-yen conversion also has to do with it but if the FR-S were offered with options similar to the 86, it'd probably cost more overall. Pick your poison.

Of course I know exactly what you are saying... I did the conversion & etc. I just think they should make it an option. For instance the BRZ has two option packages, though the FR-S has add ons for "Customizing" it doesnt have the same Jap feel! I love the FR-S dont get me wrong, I just need mine to be a Limited version. HID's, Push Start, Choice of interior seating color & so forth.

In reality the FR-S is a bit overpriced. Why? Look at the BRZ premium. It is only $1300 more and you get HIDS, Better Seats, and a "REAL" navigation system.

Actually only $3000 more than the FR-S gets the the BRZ limited which has everything. Actually kinda worth it. I admit the FR-S does look better than the BRZ, but those FR-S cheap looking halogen headlights....damn you Scion.

Actually I think there needs to be a even more stripped down version of the FR-S\BRZ, you know the one with the 16 inch steelies and no LSD and no AC. Let you add these as options if you want it.

To make the FR-S the deal of the century it really needed the HIDs as standard. Those are going to be a biotch to add later. AC is AC, sure the FR-S and BRZ premium AC looks like crap but it will not be worth it to try to add it using parts, unless its a plug and place replacement. Proximity\Push start will be easy to add, there are some aftermarket systems that use Toyota parts that sell for only $300. Custom covering the seats won't be too expensive either. But you will do none of this if you are leasing the car...so....

Damn you Scion!

But yeah I still love the FR-S for what it is (especially in whiteout!) But a black BRZ limited is probably what I am gonna go with.

I 150% agree with you on this! I would pay the extra $1300 for the HID & Navi... I think its worth it, this is a car they wanted to wow people with. They could have gave it the wow factor by simply adding those touches as the standard FR-S. The BRZ limited is nice, but I'm a Toyota guy & the front end of the BRZ isn't that great compared to the 86.

I'm assuming that, at some point, an aftermarket HID system will be available for the FR-S... at least I hope so.

Forget bout aftermarket, they should just put the damn thing in it already. At this point I'm probably gonna join the Darkside & go with the BRZ Limited 6spd Gray.

I prefer the suspension and front end of the FR-S, unfortunately.

I just can't get over how much classier the Japanese site is. They make it look like you're purchasing a luxury car, not something that's been billed as the successor to an 80's model Corolla.

And I'm torn on the Area 86 issue. On the one hand, it's a freakin' awesome concept, to have a place to go to discuss parts, performance, and race events solely for the 86. But on the other... do you really want to see how Scion would handle this? <shudder>
