Does toyota/subaru want my business?

So yeah, Honda just bi!chslapped ford and subaru/toyota today. I am a long time honda owner and import driver(nissan/toyota). So I have been holding out for the BRZ to see if it comes with goodies down the road, recalls fixed etc,...playing it smart.

But then the Focus RS is coming....and I love ford's styling now. But reliability?

And now Honda! Bam! Didn't see that coming. They got their ish together finally.

AND A TYPE R!!!

SO subaru and toyota. Quit the B.S. What wins on Sunday sells on Monday. Now get to work.

You have no idea what a Civic Type R in the US will be.

A little less Monster energy drink in your Mt. Dew please.

No disrespect, but I gotta say, if you're cross shopping these three cars and are somehow let down by Toyota/Subaru, it's kinda seems like you don't really understand these products or their target audiences. Understand that from the factory FR-S and BRZ are DD sports cars, not performance cars.

Because of this, off the lot, the Focus RS and the Civic Type R and even the Golf R 400 are going to be MUCH more expensive ($40k-$60k range) than your standard run of the mill FR-S/BRZ at $26k. They're not really competitors at all.

After that in regards to the Civic, if you want to talk about "winning on Sunday" front drive can be very fast, and with the Civic Type R it is, but with major factors being equal (weight, power, available friction, and driver) RWD platforms are generally considered faster. That is unless you're talking about winning on Sunday on the street. Also, unless you love fighting torque steer and and turbo lag while turning, then actually driving a high HP front driver isn't really much fun. You know that thing that the 86 was designed to be first and foremost.

I know all of this computes, but is it getting through?

Meh, fwd kills it for me. Big factor that led me to the BRZ in the first place. If that Type-R is AWD or RWD, it would have my attention.

Yes, Toyota and Subaru are currently not interested in selling you a FWD hot hatch.

Honda and Ford are not interested in selling you a lightweight RWD sports car.

And the sky continues to be blue.

And the grass continues to be green.

Quite honestly i probably do know more that most on this forum. However I am not going there. These are all compact sports cars. They are all affordable. Maybe yeah I need to compare a Focus ST to the subaru. Fine. I love FWD cars and think they handle just great(realtime racing anyone). However RWD can be fun and I planned on doing FI ANYWAYS on one of the twins. So technically I should have mentioned that first, and I do apologize. Either way I am spending close to $32-40k when all said and done.

I was just venting like most here in the fact that they say they are focused on the mundane and boring(basically) to make the bean counters happy. YET they released the twins, make type r models, make halo cars....and why? To make brand recognition and hope you get into their brand when young and single and stay with them when you are a dad with your 3rd kid on the way driving a minivan.

Then they flip it and say they don't really care. WTF. So in the end they have a great handling car and I want to go with them, I truly do, however unless they offer me more(albeit with a price increase) they just lost a customer and countless potential twins owners before they had us.

More like Subaru/Toyota bitchslapped some sense in everyone else a few years ago by reviving the affordable sport compact segment.

Almost every "you guys are peasants to my superiority" cliché wrapped up in one sentence. The back pedaling that follows does not negate the opening.

Good bye
