To mod or Not? (10 series)

Hey Guys,

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on modding a 10 series? I keep thinking only simple stuff like touch screen cd player, exhaust, cold air intake easily able to be put back in as stock.... The whole point of limted edition is to be different I guess and the minute you modify anything limited it loses more value then stock...

what do you guys think?

i would get tint, clear side markers, led's, and led switchback for blinkers. I would also do a spoiler. maybe new wheels, do something to fix the awful fake cf interior panels.Maybe a better exhaust.

Totally your call on what you want to do. I would mod what I felt would be nice for my car. I understand the whole "make small mods to convert to stock", but do you have a plan for how long you want to keep the car? I do not see myself selling my FR-S anytime soon even if a boosted version comes out. I like making my car my own and unique. You have a good start with a limited quantity production one.

If you want touchscreen DVD, laser lights, and a leopard print interior then by all means do what makes you feel comfortable driving the car because in the end it is a car that is meant to be driven.

The 10 series has some cool bits to it, but the main thing people want are the headlights. So holding a stock one for more value in the future is a losing proposition, very rarely do you ever get the same amount of money back that you put in.

Also that thread is pretty cool and I am all for the continuity, but TRD parts are so overpriced.

The only decision is whether or not you want to affect the value if/when you decide to sell it. I had a limited tC, the 2005 RS1, limited to 2500 units. I did a few things, intake, exhaust, springs, short shifter, stereo, sub, etc. But I had no intention of ever selling it. I did what I wanted because I was the one driving and enjoying it every day. I drove it for more than 8 years before flipping it on a rainy freeway curve ramp.

If you intend to sell it as a limited edition, you'd probably want to keep it as stock as possible. The more mods you do to a car, generally the LESS value it holds (to a degree). Because it usually implies that its driven harder, more wear and tear, mechanical abuse, etc.

Long story short, do what you want. If you plan to sell it, be aware of what's on it, what it does to the value (up or down) and what you can (or should) remove.

When I'm searching for used cars I usually don't get past the first picture to the text description when I see gaudy wheels, fart cannons, speakers in the trunk, "stance", aftermarket HID's etc.

I don't want to deal with other people's mistakes.

Sure that doesn't rule out the guys who swap back to OEM parts but upon an inspection issues become much more obvious, and if the guy took the time to swap everything back to OEM I assume it's because he's competent working on cars (or pays someone accordingly). Just my 2 cents since you mentioned modifying and lost value.

I think you should have fun and do what makes you happy. Don't fret over resale value.

I've always laughed at people who buy a house and are afraid to do anything in case they sell it years later. So they live in a state of not having it they way they want IN CASE it MAYBE affects the sell price even if they MIGHT never sell it. Do what you like with it unless you are specifically planning on selling it later. If you want, you could mod only easily reversible things to ease your mind.

If your worried about modding the car just do bolt on mods you can take off at a later time.

I'm not going to trade mine so it's not a big deal.
