Question Best kit for occasional track usage

Just wanted to get ideas from people that have experience with turbo/supercharger setups. Whats the best kit out there if money were no object for fastest spool up(i know it depends on turbo size) due to best piping route and or unit placement. I wanted to be able to use 300-350 whp, mostly daily driven but some frequent track visits. I know a good radiator will be a must as well as an oil cooler. I was looking at Ptuning and the d3p3 systems. Thanks

I haven't had any issues with my revworks kit in the hot florida summer with no cooling mods whatsoever beating the snot out of it on the street. Not track time though, even a stock car can't handle much track time without cooling issues so who knows...

I honestly think you should take a hard look at my kit but with a smaller turbo. Just because the extremely short piping equates a really fast throttle response. You can also use a smaller IC than mine. I understand you are a bit concerned with a top mounted turbo, but a vented hood will help a lot to keep the eingine bay temperatures in check.

Second opinion from me and for your use would be Ptuning. Great quality and turbo placement away from the engine. Add to that cost an aftermarket header as I don't trust the Cat to be before turbo at all...

Interesting that you mentioned fastest spool up and the PTuning kit which uses some of the longest piping and a larger GT30 turbo. I guess my question would be why do you want to be able to use 300-350 whp on track? You can get to your 350 whp goal with pretty much any turbo kit out there with the exception of the AVO kit. It can probably be reached on E85 with all the supercharger kits except the Innovate. I think the JDL kit with a smaller turbo might be the best option for what you have listed.

^ second that on the cat before the turbo. that's a major failure waiting to happen, not to mention the performance implications. stock wrx's do it i know but a lot of them have failed and destroyed turbos, too.

i'll add as well that your engine bay is going to be hot regardless of where the turbo is located. you're making an extra 150-200whp. considering that these engines are roughly 60-70% thermally efficient, you're making a lot more extra heat than that even would suggest. the turbo is a contributing factor for sure, but with a decent turbo blanket and some wrap/coating, it's certainly not worth adding 5+ feet of plumbing over.

my turbo is front mounted and my iat's are within a few degrees of ambient any time im moving, sometimes a couple degree less. it's really a theoretical issue with no practical implications imho.

Your kit is number one on my list, i didnt want to hijack your thread lol about KABs new kit but i've been meaning to get in touch with them about their options. Just wanted to wait till they had all things sorted out or pricing available. Not sure if they had everything ready to go but no doubt im still waiting for the ride when yours is finished

@King Tut-Dont want to use e85, rather use 93, while in some areas it may be easy to get, its not the case where i live. I didn't mention the ptuning because it has fastest spool up, i wouldn't know that simply because i like the way it looks, seems to be of great quality, they have some vids of the car on autox and seems to spool up pretty damn quick.

James- i dont really have any issues with top mounted, i rather like them. I know the heat will be an issue no matter what, so as you mentioned i plan on doing all coatings and blankets possible as well as wrapping.

Thanks all for your help and insight.

The KAB kit and the JDL kit are very similar. Either would be a good choice when paired with a GTX28 for quick spool.

Fair enough! We are doing tests on two new flashes tonight and should be moving forward pretty quickly from now. I will give you a ride before getting back on E85.

This is our go to video for those that ask about turbo response. Slow spoolup and transient boost lag are NOT issues that we deal with.

An efficient hotside on a turbocharger system gets overlooked way too often for short IC piping with tight radius bends. Our key ingredient to making a GT3076R work with our turbo system starts with a straight exiting downpipe that allows exhaust gases to exit the exhaust tip(s) in a much shorter and more efficient manner than most turbo systems. It also happens to be one of the reasons that our S2000 turbo system makes awesome power with a very wide powerband and very quick transient response. Just some food for thought.

Have you had any issues at all with the placement and damage to any components be it the turbo kit components or car's. Thanks for your feedback. Is there a reason why you provide standard adjustable swaybar endlinks? Fitment i'm assuming?

To OP, my goals are similar to yours.

I track my car frequently. Once a fortnight give or take.

I had the bullet/innovate kit. I don't anymore. The IC is insufficient for track.

I have a JDL kit on order, with a gtx28. I initially preferred the ptuning kit for for the turbo placement, but went away from it because of the IC piping length. That much piping is always going to have a negative effect on response. More piping equals more time between the turbo making boost, and that boost getting to the motor.

Greddy kit is good. Good size turbo. Good short IC piping.

JDL, same reasons as greddy. But Everything that is good about the Greddy kit, JDL do much better. And I think its cheaper?

The one idea I had was to use the ptuning kit, but with a water to air intercooler, and perhaps a custom intake manifold with the tb on the back, or even with the W2a IC intergrated into the manifold.

But scrapped that idea. As it was too different and custom, so lots $$, might not have worked all that well.

Anyway. JDL for quality. Gtx28 or small frame borg warner for responsive 300whp.

CSG is having success with the Jackson Racing S/C kit out in California. A little bit lower on power but it's holding up to track use well w/ an oil cooler.
