Subaru Sport-tech here:
Today, I went out to show my friend the ELM327 Mini and Torque app. Started car, everything was fine. Turned down the radio, we talked about the torque app, and we examined what was showing. Then I look up and on the HU there is a warning something like 'System has detected a fault with Parking Brake wiring. Please use caution and check your system' ![]() I've never ever seen this before. I DID perform the softmod to remove the lawyer screen that we normally get... I've never touched any wiring behind the HU, in fact, I've never messed with any wiring on this car. |

Update to this:
I decided to go buy lunch and I drove my car instead of walking. The second time I started it, the message was gone. Not sure if the issue is resolved, but I have a theory. I started the car multiple time without actually moving it, and I was revving the engine so that I could show my friend what data was being picked up over OBDII and how everything changes (rpm/load/throttle/intake pressure/MAF, etc.). The HU must have either detected engine revs, or perhaps the GPS lost signal and measured a movement of the vehicle and assumed that the P-brake must be broken because it was on the whole time... I get that warning occasionally as well; it goes away right away and nothing seems to be affected.
