Gas pedal loose

I tried searching but could not find it.

I recently took a road trip to Miami and this is how I noticed the issue. A few times I was driving with the accelerator pressed all the way down. And while it is pressed I can feel the gas pedal move left and right.

I'm pretty sure this can't be a safe thing. Or am I just worrying for no reason?

Is it just the pad on the... I don't know the exact term, but the metal rod/arm the pedal pad is attached to? Or is it the whole arm?

Feels like the entire arm. I'll try to confirm later once I get off work.

It has play in it, most gas pedals do, 99% sure this is how it is. I would describe mine the same way.

Every other car I've driven I have never noticed it. But most of them were autos.

If it's just the pad on the arm, no big deal. And if it's just regular play, no big deal. But it's strange that you're just now noticing it. I know my other car's pedal has some play in it. Like if you're coasting down the road and release all pressure from the pedal, you can wiggle it back and fourth and the whole thing will move side-to-side.

Mine isn't the pad, it's the whole arm, same with every other car I've had time to inspect (which admittedly isn't many).

Yeah, it's the whole pedal on mine too. Didn't realize I didn't specify that.
