Eighteen days of Eighty-Six... Big plans already.

ABOUT ME:

I started working at a shop not knowing sh!t about cars fresh out of high school.
Instead of going to tech school, my dad was kind enough to hook me up with a job with an old buddy of his in the auto body business.
You see, I mainly got the job because I had an '88 Supra N/A, turbo swap project car that I wanted to do up in my own way. Big project. Only drove it for 2 months, owned it for 7 years!
My main ride in the meantime, an '05 Mazda3 hatch, just blew it's 4th (rebuilt, albeit poorly (by the shop)) motor
This was Sunday, July 28th, 2013. I started working at the shop February, 2006.
Project car was getting nowhere, and my Mazda was eating all the money. At this point, I also had 2 kids and a wife frustrated with both cars!
I had had enough.
We decided to get rid of both… I didn’t even think twice about the Supra. Good riddance, to the Mazda.
Hours upon hours of researching…. And suddenly, it hit me. The FR-S, a concept I had seen back in 2009 was suddenly within grasp. I was in a good position at my job, and I was confident this was the car for me.
My wife was happy as long as it was a Toyota… She hears they are very reliable. Hehe. Also made me promise I would take care of our 2 sons as far as getting them buckled up.
But, in life, you must compromise.
This car has made me and everyone who has sat in it smile… Then laugh as the rear kicks out… Then get mad… fade to a smile and just more laughing.

THE FR-S:

Here she is. I guess she is a she. She’s beautiful, everyone says.

All the mods I’ve done myself. First time I’ve tinted anything, happy with the result, minus the rear and front windshields. I will get them done professionally later.

Tail lights + side reflectors were cake… VHT Nite Shades, which I had, + some clear in the oven at the shop. Emblems are jet black and clear coated.

Xenons came from a totaled ’02 740iL. Currently, someone gave me adapters, and bulbs that are 3000k… Didn’t like them at first, but they are growing on me. I do plan to get 5000k’s and 6000k’s to play with.

Heh, this second shot came out nice.

Oh, and I just did the headlight black out today. Well worth it

Don't mind the fingerprints! I just finished up the install and took pics.

All in all, I’ve spent less than $50… just countless hours.

Let me know what you guys think! Glad to join the club.

I literally just jumped into the car meet scene the week of my purchase. Met other FR-S' behind me... Amazing what a little hello can do!

OH, and I have a surprise for you all in about a week from now... (that's what I'll post pics.)

Take care! Time to be a dad now :P

Looks good man! Welcome to the site, I'm eager to see what else you have planned. I've been debating getting some tint, it looks well worth it.

Just so the the thread makes sense, car was mine eve of July 31... so 18 days of ownership starting at 24 miles. on the odemeter...

Papers said 8.. GRRR.. I wanted to correct them, too, alas...

And GET THIS. Here's the conversation between myself and the sales guy, RIGHT after he put the dealer plates on it:

SALES GUY: Let's go fill it up.
ME: OK.
SALES GUY: You know, it's really good on ga, only needs 87 octane.
ME: Uhhhhh... this is a high-compression motor.
SALES GUY: blank stare
ME: Trust me. I did my research on this car, you can only put me premium in it.
SALES GUY: Who tell you that. (His words exactly)
ME: thinking weather the "PREMIUM ONLY" is on the dash, or behind the fuel lid... remember, I haven't even SAT in the d#mn thing!
SALES GUY: Flip the fuel door...
ME: flips fuel door.... It says "PREMIUM ONLY".
SALES GUY: OH SH!T...
ME: Huh?
SALES GUY: I've been telling everybody to fill up with 87.
SALES GUY: starts muttering to himself...

Anyways, more stories later. I just did the wires for the sub in the car. Tucked everything in nice.

Gotta get up for work in the morning... Good night!

The guy at my dealership was absolutely geeked out on the FR-S, one of the few times I've been to a dealership and had a salesperson actually know what he was speaking about. It's ridiculous the guy at your dealership doesn't know the ONE vehicle they sell that requires premium fuel.

My sales guy at my Subaru dealership was one of the best guys I've ever worked with when buying a car. He was a Miata owner, so he understood basically everything the Twins stood for.

So been a bit busy with the car... Posting a few updated pics

Also, removed driver's window tint because I was unhappy with my result. Oh well! Here you go:

Painted fender garnish a deep, pure black, and cleared. Sharpied between pistons to see if I like it:

Painted mirror covers the same black:

Got some stripes! 2" strip, 2" gap, 1/2" strip. Gloss black. Just the hood and bumper.

Front Lt. 1/4 Shot:

Front Rt. 1/4 Shot:

With my old 3 (now sold).

I wish I knew that 100x5 to 114x5 adapters existed before I sold the Mazda... oh well.

Just need a drop and some wheels and I'll be happy for now

Let me know what you think! I saw the stripe in a thread here, HAD TO DO IT.
