Hmmmm........a fun run......

I've run up and down Pikes Peak in my MX-5; I'm anxious to make the run in my FR-S.

The best part is that it's not a state road, it's owned by the city of Colorado Springs (I think?). Meaning, speed limit enforcement is a bit different than elsewhere. Worst that'll happen is you get kicked off the mountain - no points on your record. Or so my car buddies tell me...I've avoided roadside interviews up there so far. You just need to time your drive to avoid the tourists, especially this time of year. Amazing how slow they go on that road.

Some major media syndication should start Touge Battles there. The Hill climb is awesome, but a Touge battle at a set portion of the course would be sick!

I need to drive this. It's on my bucket list. Hopefully, I'm going out to Colorado this summer to knock off another item (seeing Pretty Lights @ Red Rocks Ampitheatre). I just need to find a good rental car to carve this with, any suggestions? Since there obvs won't be any BRZs or FRSs at the car rental places...

Yep, start off real early on a weekday morning .....

But it's tough to get ahead of the traffic on the way down ...

Last time I ventured up, it wasn't paved all the way ..... how about now ..??

Pikes Peak is a great road, though the drive isn't free. It's a toll road, but the fee is pretty light. I used to live in Colorado Springs (grew up there) so I've been up and down that mountain more times than I can count. Last time I was home I took my FRS up to the top and was amazed just how gutless the car can be at 14,000 feet. There's a 35mph speed limit on the entire road, but there's no "police" at all, just the occasional 'park ranger' type person that will sometimes get a wild hair and might try to stop you. All they have to do is wait until you come back down though, there's only one way down that mountain (in one piece). I think everyone that can, should try to attend the Pikes Peak Hill Climb at least once in their life, its a great event, tons of fun the week leading up to it with most of the cars (ATVs, bikes, carts) appearing around town, and in the parade before the race. The whole road is paved now, but the top mile or so is pretty shitty pavement already.

Also, keep in mind that the peak is 14,110 feet above sea level. If you are visiting Colorado from a much lower elevation (<3000 ft), I'd advise against going to the top on your first day. Colorado Springs is ~6500-7000 feet, depending on where in town you stay, the start of the toll road is higher than that, and it can be very difficult to breathe for people that aren't used to the elevation. Give yourself a day or two to acclimate before heading up the mountain.
