Premature low fuel light

Does anyone else think their low fuel indicator light comes on way way waaaaaaaaaay too early? If I fill up as soon as the light comes on the car only takes just over 10 gallons. I just filled up an hour ago, after driving around with the fuel light on for the last 40 miles, and the tank only took 11.1 gallons. Since our gas tank holds 13.2 gallons (50 liters) it would be much more helpful if the light didn't come on till somewhere around 1.5-2.0 gallons were left.

I'm trying to learn to ignore or or just go another 50 miles before filling up but I feel like this is going to burn me eventually

Anyone else notice this?

I too was surprised that the light came on well before the indicator was even on E. I do recall it stating somewhere in the manual (or maybe the quick reference guide) that when the light comes on, there is 1.5 gallons in the tank.

Yeah I thought the manual said the light comes on when there are 2 gallons left. But mine is coming on with over 3 gallons left, which is over 20% of the tank's capacity!

If you see your fuel gauge at the off position, that's pretty much the empty position. I ignore the fuel light until I actually dip right below the redline. Even then I've never put 13 gallons in. Like a pilot does, trust your gauges.

Keep in mind, running a car until it's dry can be bad for the car.

Call me crazy.... but I like knowing I have a decent reserve when the light comes on. My old A4 did it at 3 gallons so i have no issues with the FR-S doing it

I'm trying to hit 400 miles on a tank but I just can't keep going once that light comes on. The most I've put in is 11.2 gallons.

$20 says your A4 has a considerably larger fuel tank than the BRZ.

Everyone wants a decent reserve. But your fuel light coming on when you have 3 gallons left means you can go another 75-90 miles before empty. That's a lot given most people only get 300-350 miles per tank.

If it really bothers you, put a piece of black tape in front of the light and keep an eye on the gauge.

Get the torque app + elm 327 bluethooth OBD II reader (~$25), then you'll never have to guess ever again. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...300#post588300

The fuel light comes on at exactly 2.4 gallons left every time for me.. that means you can go for another 70-80 miles if you cruise lightly.

Generally, the low fuel indicators of cars come on when there are about two gallons or so left. I'd prefer for it to come on earlier rather than when it is truly close to empty.

It's generally not good to let your tank run close to empty....
