brz rear ended

i haven't even had my car for 2 months and some old 70ish year old man rear ends the shit out of my brz. i swear, old people should be banned from driving. his excuse was that he thought his gas pedal was his brake pedal, so even after he hit me he kept pushing me forward. so far the damage cost just on the cosmetic is $12k. if they find mechanical issues, it'll cost more.

This is getting rediculous. I'm never going to take my car out of the garage again. On the flip side, you seem to be ok, and cars are replaceable.

Think about it this way:
When YOU are an old duffer you may have THREE pedals to decide upon. (if, in fact, there will still be manuals available).

Be thankful that you did not have a gray or light gray color that is even harder to see.

If you haven't already, now is your chance to do the rear reflector/fog light conversion.

I'll say it again, after age 65 you should be required "yearly" to retake your driving test. Not trying to be rude to the elderly but what if that had been a child and not another car. I've seen elderly people drive into houses and buildings stating the same thing "I thought it was my brake pedal".

Either way, glad you're alright dude and sorry about the car. Even if you are a Lakers fan

feel your pain man, I recently had my whole front end destroyed because of an older guy cutting me off. hopefully you can come out good with the repair and dont forget to file a diminished value claim with the insurance company!

I agree 100%. Retest and recertify every year if you are 65+ or under the age of 25.

Under 25 is pointless, they have the mental faculty to pass the road test regardless of how they drive in the real world.

The argument of testing at 65+ plus is to ensure a driver has the capacity to use a turn signal without amassing a body count.

about the repair, do they replace the whole body or just mold the new part and weld it? also what's the thing about the diminished value? will i be able to get extra money out of this? because this is a brand new car, and i don't want just repair, i want something in return because my resale value dropped big time

That's what insurance is for, just be glad you're ok and not at fault man. No biggie. Shit happens.

And to answer your question, assuming there's no mechanical or frame damage, they'll replace the damaged body panels with OEM parts and repaint them to match.
