header bare, wrapped, or ceramic coated?
im ordering my headers soon and ceramic coating is a $150 option, but im not sure what the best route to go is.
do i order them bare? do i order them bare then wrap them? do i order them ceramic coated? they are the FA20CLUB headers so they will be used with the full header kit down the line. along with any other good info i can get on this, @lexusb3, what did you do for yours? |

If you have the cash i'd ceramic coat them...that's what i plan on doing. Helps under hood temps and keeps rust away longer.

i vote ceramic, however not all ceramic is the same. I had some sti parts done with jet hots basic level coating and it chipped with the slightest scrap during installation. It worked but I was pretty disappointed about the durability.
Swain Tech makes a white lightening coating and that stuff is thick and I've heard nothing but good things about it, just get over the fact that it only comes in white.

Bare or ceramic, don't wrap them!

Got the bare option.. I like the cool looking goldish color it becomes after it's been used for the first time.

This. On a race car it's not such a big deal since it probably never stays wet, but on a street car it'll hold moisture and corrode the headers much faster.

These days there are hard drying silicone coatings you spray over the wrap after the intial drying... makes the wrap feel like a hard cast. These prevent (or significantly reduce) water absorption. I wrapped the whole exhaust (downpipe to muffler) on my evo viii, did the spray coating, never had any moisture or corrosion issues over the course of 4 or 5 years... then again, i am in georgia and we do not have salt related corrosion issues here so...
I will be wrapping and sealing mine, if nameless ever releases theirs that is

I've seen wrapped manifolds catch fire with simple oil spills before and there's not much you can do to stop it as the oil is embedded in the wrap. You end up having to take it all off anyway.

I may put heat barrier on the oil pan and just wrap the section the turns up in front of the motor.... but I have plenty of time to change my mind a few times before nameless will be ready to ship.
