My Muffler Delete is too loud.. which AB?

I have a Works AB-R (resonated axle back muffler delete) but it's too loud for my tastes so I'm looking to swap it out for something else. The AB-R is pretty good most of the time but whenever I go up a hill/incline, it gets really loud even below 3k RPM. Flat or down hill acceleration is quiet under 3k RPM.

I'm looking at the AB-M from Works, Nameless Axleback, and Greddy SP Elite as a replacement.

It's really hard to judge how an exhaust is going to sound from a video so I was wondering if anybody has listened to any of these in person. For example, I saw video with the Works AB-M with stock everything (just like my FR-S), but it sounds almost like what my AB-R does, so I feel like videos are unreliable.

I'm looking more for an exhaust that is louder than stock, but not as loud as my resonated muffler delete. A low rumble, or really deep bass note, but not too loud under 3k RPM would be ideal. Over 3K, 4k RPM - noise don't matter.

I really like the sound of the Borla Cat Back from this video:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEZyXu5rdkc"]Borla R&D - 2013 Scion FR-S Catback - Revving & Drive By (PN-140496) - YouTube[/ame]

But again, it sounds like it coudl be the microphone used was overwhelmed with bass... so hard to tell from videos.

Anyway, open to any suggestions, even Cat Backs (the Borla is #1 on my cat back list right now). Is the Borla too loud?

It's definitely really hard to tell from videos. My exhaust sounds a lot different than ALL the research videos I looked at. If possible you should try and make a brz/frs meet up in the sf area and hopefully some people will have different set ups you can listen too.
from what I've seen/ heard the nameless is the most civilized and a good option for those who don't want the loud drone. Good luck!

As far as drone: Resonated exhausts shouldn't have this. A muffler delete, no matter of which manufacturer, will always have this by design.

Get the Nameless, it will be one of the best purchases you make for the car.

I can agree with muffler delete being loud. I also did high flow cat at the same time. Even louder

Yep, I'll be selling the AB-R.. probably won't be selling it until around April 1st though, whenever I buy and install my new exhaust. I could send you a PM when I'm looking to sell if you're interested?

I saw that a lot of people have been recommending the Nameless.. which muffler option do you recommend (5" or 4")?
http://shop.namelessperformance.com/...eback-exhaust/

Does the muffler size change the exhaust note significantly or just the volume?

The note is the same, its a matter of volume. I recommend you the 4" mufflers if you don't plan on doing any other modification to the exhaust system. But, if you plan on changing anything else, (frontpipe, headers, etc) go with the 5".

From their site:

Quote:
4" Mufflers: These are our hand built mufflers with 4" outer diameter and 8" length. They are center inlet, center outlet and are constructed entirely from T304L Stainless Steel right here in our facility by our crack team of fabricators. The sound of these is less than the muffler delete but greater than the 5" mufflers. This option is the best for those who like a bit of volume to their exhaust but don't want the "race car" noise and are not planning to upgrade other portions of the exhaust. This option is also suitable for those who like a loud exhaust and are planning on upgrading their downpipe or their downpipe and overpipe.

5" Mufflers: The dimensions of these hand built mufflers are 5" diameter with a body length of 8" and offset inlet/outlet. These mufflers are the best option for a nice smooth exhaust note. The tone is nice and deep with volume being mellow with stock exhaust otherwise. When you decide to upgrade to an aftermarket downpipe or overpipe/downpipe combo, this exhaust really comes alive while remaining deep and smooth sounding. This axleback even keeps the volume down at a tolerable level with our catless header.

Hmmm ill see. PM me if you're selling. I might be interested. I'm planning on selling my Tsudo exhaust without the downpipe and buy a quad tip j2 exhaust. Love the sound of it. But it's hard to find a buyer.

Go with nameless. High quality steel with professional tig welds.

Be aware the works system is aluminized steel and will most likely rust if you live somewhere it rains/snows a decent amount. It's most likely mig welded too based on their choice of steel.
