How to: Fixing hyper blink on LED turn signals

I didn't take any pictures when I did this so I didn't bother creating a DIY but if a mod feels this could be moved, feel free! Also I want to use this thread as a discussion too because as of right now I see no legitimate disadvantage to this method versus others.

So I had picked up some LED turn signals for my BRZ (7440 front and rear) from Automation (link below), got a great deal and VERY fast shipping. I highly recommend making this purchase from them.

To start (and explain) I spent an obscene amount of time hearing from a car friend of mine how antiquated the Subaru "thermal flashers" are. I didn't pay any mind because quite frankly, no driving enthusiast will truly care. I ordered the LED turn signals and I told him I had some resistors I would use along side to make them blink properly as without the resistors, the LED turn signals will hyper blink due to the low amount of power they need compared to the OEM bulbs. My friend finally bothered to explain to me how simple it would be to get rid of the inferior flasher unit in my BRZ and replace it with a "modern" electronic unit. Searching online for a "Lexus LED Flasher relay unit" will get you the part you need.

Replacing the flasher is fairly simple but as a disclaimer I must say, removing the panel pieces here is not required but it does make things easier.

Start by opening your driver's side door and removing this plastic piece. There is a psuedo-opening at the bottom where you can get leverage.

Now you want to remove the plastic below the steering wheel that has the interior light adjustment and headlight level adjustment dials (brz model only). There is a screw in the bottom right and the other screw was uncovered when you removed this plastic piece in the previous step. Giving it a good yank should get it free but don't pull too hard, you'll still need to undo the connections to those dials.

Now find someone younger or in better shape because this next part is a bit of a task. You want to get on your back and look straight up near the steering column and you'll see the flasher unit that looks like the picture below. Note that the flasher is upside down in the picture. You'll need to undo the relay harness and carefully slide out the flasher unit. Now just replace it with your new electronic flasher, put it all back together and you're good to go. Go around to the corners of the car and put in your LED turn signals if you haven't already.

Disclaimer: Your turn signals will NOT hyper-flash when your bulb is dying if you do the electronic flasher conversion. I see this as a non-issue though.

From a search I saw there was very brief talk of this conversion in a different thread but I figured I'd make this thread so more people would notice it.

In an effort to not advertise for companies that are not vendors here, I have not put up a link for where to buy the flasher unit but I have given enough info to properly find it on the bay.
