BRZ Snow Mobile Mode w/Vid

Here is a video to show how well the BRZ does when prepped properly for winter. We are under a Blizzard Warning here so I recorded this on my way into work this morning. The roads had not gotten super bad yet but there was decent amount of snow cover and slush.

Car has General Arctic Altimax tires on stock rims (205-50/17).

No shenanigans...just shows how well a BRZ or FR-S can get around equipped with good snow tires.

i dont have much weight in the back but I found the car very good in the snow w/ winter tires.

people need to stop complaining about how the car handles in snow with all seasons...

Have you tried it without the weight in the trunk? Does 150lb make a noticeable difference?

Is that vibrating sound the traction control braking? I know for autocross if you have traction on or on sport it makes that sound.

I found the car to be OK without weight but didn't consider it good or very good. I have driven a number of platforms though including EVO's and WRX's with snow tires as well as FWD cars such as Honda Civics where the front bumper is filled with lead I would consider no weight OK, 100lbs was good and 150lbs is very good for a light RWD platform.

Yes, a world of difference per my comments above. In the wet I literally cannot break the tires loose on a roll in a straight line and it takes a significant amount of throttle to induce oversteer cornering in the wet. As grip decreases on a surface, more weight on a small contact surface in general creates better traction which is why ice skates work so well.

Yes, but I was over exaggerating throttle input so that you could see how quickly the car will accelerate and how little the nanny has to interact.

well to be honest i had some small hand tools, detail bag, work boots hard hat and some cloths so wasnt no weight haha

Point taken Even a full tank of gas makes a noticeable difference too

It sounds like it did worse then I expected it too. A lot of traction control issues. I would probably just turn it off anyway. I always did much better in AK with everything turned off.

Have people been that worried about it though? We had mustangs with all seasons driving around in AK with no issues.

Most of what you are hearing is stability control. As mentioned my throttle inputs were extremely aggressive and short of adding more weight front/rear or chained/cabled/studded tires, the car isn't going to get any better. One of my friends commented about it being AWD last night when we went for a ride. I normally drive with everything off as well.

I would say yes,most everyone thinks RWD means its a fair weather car and you need a winter beater around here. Then again most people have never owned or driven with snow tires and do not realize how much better they are then all season tires. When I was in Anchorage, a good amount of the cars I saw had studded tires and no doubt I would be using those if I lived there.

Tires are everything! I still remember driving my STI in AK and we had an early snow. AWD didn't help one bit with those RE070's! Luckily I wasn't driving like a maniac so I only slid about 20 feet on some black ice.

Threw on some Hankook Ipike's and never got stuck even in some situations where I probably should have.

The only reason my frs is in storage is because of the salt, otherwise i would be flogging mine around all winter as well....

This isn't surprising seeing you're from Wi. You guys get it too.
I never thought of lead shot. I've always used salt blocks, concrete or sand.
Mine's a garage queen too until spring..
