Gen 2 oil temp/pressure during track use?
Does anyone have any data on this yet? Does gen2's oil pressure drop with temp during track usage? Just curious if anyone knows if oiling have improved in the FA24.

Someone did a few test on a FB group, "2022+ Subaru BRZ / Toyota GR86 Autocross/Track Cars"
"OK more oil pressure testing results on the new Gen with 5w30 Motul 8100 engine oil. Sensor was mounted at two different locations for oil pressure readings. Position 1: after oil filter & before OE oil cooler (pic 1) Cold start: 115psi Idle (210F): 20 psi Street driving (210F): ~25 psi per 1k RPM, tops off at about 95 psi Track driving (250F): >70 psi Position 2: oil galley plug on the engine block (pic 2) Cold start: 100 psi Idle (210F): 14 psi Street driving (210F): ~20 psi per 1k RPM, tops off at about 80 psi Track driving (250F): not tested yet (predicted as >55 psi assuming 15 psi loss to position 1 reading) As expected, the pressure readings from engine block (which is more accurate) is about 10~15 psi lower than that from oil filter sandwich. So far the oil pressure looks solid even on a track day at ~65F ambient temp. Will keep monitoring when the weather get's hotter. To me, 250F and 60psi is really on the fence of whether an external oil cooler is needed or not. Guess we will find out soon." |

Thank you for the data. I didn't think an oil cooler was essential for the casual track goer, like myself, even for the FA20. However, I just wanted to know if there were any improvements in this regard.

We'll be doing a bunch of testing on this platform at some point. Here's tidbit from some EJ testing we've done to give you an idea of some of what we do...

Pressures are fine, temps get high with the factory heat exchanger.
Oil-Air cooler gonna be recommended for anyone in warmer climates or driving at a faster pace. |

Any sign of oil pressure loss at high RPM? From the data posted above, pressures sound a bit more stable. Not so low at idle at higher temps. And maybe not much drop off near peak?

I’m just waiting for that one guy to come in here and tell everybody that oil coolers are useless or whatever because of slight oil pressure drop. The threads always get to be so fun once he joins in

does the car have an OEM pressure sensor? If so I'll see if I can add it to my racecapture for autox next weekend.
Last weekend I did a 70s autox course. Oil Temps were 205 at the start of the run and 239 by the end. That seems pretty warm for a 70* ambient day. My bet is mid summer you'll 100% want a cooler for track. |

I don't believe so. Just a switch for a dummy light.

As far as temps go, use a good oil and don't worry until you hit 260°. As oil temps climb the OEM cooler becomes more efficient as the temp delta increases, so temps don't exactly scale with ambient. That said, it's not a substitute for a remote cooler, if it's truly needed. ^ Correct. Hopefully it's better than the switch in the EJ; 2.1psi :/ |
