I added 6 quarts of oil by mistake

So I did my oil change this morning and by mistake I added 6 quarts of oil instead of the 5.8. I checked the dip stick and the oil level was perfect on the 2 point of the dipstick but it had a line of oil on the side just above the 2 point, I was wondering if it’s safe to drive with 6 quarts of oil? Has anyone done this mistake before?

If youre always at redline, you may have oil going places it shouldnt. But if its a "daily", itll be fine. The bottom notch or mark on a dipstick is COLD fill, like 40-60*F. When you check your oil HOT, 250*F+, it should be at the top mark.

High mark is "full". Low mark is 1 liter (1.1 qt) short of "full". Difference between hot and cold won't be anything like the difference between the low and high marks!

For sure you're fine at 0.2 quarts (probably a little more than that as engine wasn't totally dry when you added 6 quarts). I've run somewhat overfilled as well, by probably 1/2-qt, on the street and at the track, never had any problems.

I do not pay attention to much in the way of Diesel technology. So one day. like in only the last year, I saw a reference to Diesel exhaust fluid and thought someone must be having fun at my expense. Turns out Google and the automotive industry are in on the joke.

The muffler doesn't have oil, the muffler bearings are sealed -

Funnily there is a weird spherical "gasket" at the spring-loaded joint between the forward pipe and catback, p/n 44022AA123. Muffler bearing! Kinda...

you don't even want to know what DEF has done to repair bills on semi trucks

some trucking companies have seriously gone to the lengths of frame-up restorations of the old non-DEF-equipped trucks because of it...
