FR-S with BRZ diffuser...I installed it.
So i was at VividRacing today to get an estimate on all the stuff I want for my FR-S (Sorry Mike you were off for the day...apparently), when i asked out of curiosity about the BRZ rear diffuser spoiler thingy...Anywas to make a long story short he called the Subaru place down the street and they had just one in stock, so i bought it.
I didnt even think to take pics of just the part, but to be honest it doesnt feel like $700 bucks worth of plastic, but hey i wanted it for looks. The whole part actually adds about an inch and a half to the lowest part of the stock diffuser in case that matters to anyone. The install was a pain in the ass though. You have to remove the rear bumper to install this kit, I'm sure someone might figure out a way to keep the bumper on with a lift, but I doubt it. Taking the bumper off required me looking through a service manual that was provided from these forums, but what they dont tell you is that you have to take the taillights out to do so. Theres only 8 push clips and 2 screws holding the bumper on...and 16 stupid plastic hook type snaps, or whatever you call them, you just have to be careful to not damage your paint undoing all those hooks. Once you have the bumper off, you have to drill some holes in the diffuser, the kit provides a template for the middle hole and the other 4 are pre marked on the inside of the bumper which is pretty convenient. Once its all assembled though the whole bumper feels less flimsy. Theres are no openings on the added "underwing" like someone suggested in another thread, its pretty much not a functioning piece as a provider of down force but it isnt gonna be a big wind brake either. Yeah I know it makes the tips look tiny but it will look really good with the Agency Power Catback exhaust...might have to see if they can throw some titanium tip on a set for me ![]() Bumper off. ![]() All put back together. ![]() ![]() ![]() For comparison...

It wasnt really alot of work, in all it took me 2 hours, and i had never had the bumper off the car before. It just sucked alot because its 109 degrees in my garage atm...
Plus this little kit finishes off the rear end for me...it always felt like the bottom of the diffuser was unfinished now its not! |

I'm sure someone will come out with something along the same lines, the one thing i discovered when i took the bumper off is that the black diffuser section is actually a part of the whole bumper as in the whole bumper is one piece, i had hoped it was separate and just bolted on but thats not the case. I do however love that the Subaru part bolts onto the bumper with 7 bolts and 4 plastic push clips, so its definitely not going anyhwere.

Why did you have remove the bumper, maybe just FR-S related. Pretty sure it's an easy install on BRZ.

BRZ and FRS have the exact same bumper...I checked to make sure when i stopped at the Subaru Dealership to pick it up. You have to remove the bumper to be able to drill the holes needed for the kit. The markings you use are molded into the plastic on the inside of the bumper, not to mention that a drill would be a pain in the ass to fit up in there with the bumper on.

It's the same install on the BRZ. You have to remove the bumper cover and drill holes in it. I got my BRZ with the diffuser since I didn't want to wait for a different car, but I looked at removing it since it's not legal for my autocross class. Once I found out how it was attached, I'm going to have to swap entire bumper covers with someone who wants the diffuser, which is fine with me.

It's 7 philips head screws and 2 push clips. Just in case you didnt want to wait to find someone with a rear clip to trade. |
