Metallic tink
So I’ve been hearing a metallic tink from the passenger side engine. It’s regular and evenly space. Not loud enough to hear from the cabin but can hear it through the engine idle with hood open and ear near there. Slightly slower than the DI clicks. I used a a stethoscope but couldn’t really pinpoint it out since in couldn’t reach the side of the head well. I can hear it from the oil control valve area and also on the block near that area about the same loudness. Nothing from the driver side that matches the right side or at least nothing that slow and regular. Increases speed with rpm.
What do you guys think? |

The cams spin at half crank speed so if the noise seems slower yet steady, could be in valve train. Header leak can cause metallic sounds as well.

Like suggested you may check the exhaust and make sure you don't have a leak. Since you can't hear it from inside the cabin, I would suggest you just ignore it. These engines make all sorts of weird sounds, that a lot of gasoline engines don't. Back in the day, I would have called a valve lifter out of adjustment. But, since this puppy uses "buckets" tightening up a little valve slack is a pain in the butt. Besides, being a little loose (chattering a bit) is better than being too tight (can't hear it - can cause a burnt valve). Besides if the engine is really hurting - it will send you a CEL. humfrz |
