Oil leak. Under the back seats
Just got a used brz yesterday, and it’s about 21k miles. Just noticed some oil leaking from the back in the middle under the back seats I believe. It is very slow and oil levels haven’t gone down. Anybody know what this is?

Diff, fill it up.
Don't ask for leaks on internet if you don't know, it's kind danger. Tow it to a good shop asap, you can only see so much from the picture. |

Hello Nutrivce and welcome to our helpful forum -
![]() Yep, like said, the differential is leaking oil - ![]() hat seems to be a relatively rare happening. If you are a DIY kind of guy, you may consider cleaning up the area, then see if you can tell where the leak is coming from. If it's leaking from the drain plug, I would suggest you replace the drain plug washer (might as well change the oil while you are at it). If the leak is coming from another part, you may try tightening the bolts that hold the rear cover on (use torque wrench). If it still leaks, unless you are a big time DIY person, I'd suggest you drive it slowly to have a shop and have them fix it. OR Do it the humfrz way, make an appointment at a shop (don't drive it in the meantime, except to the shop) and ask them to fix it - ![]() humfrz |

As others said, if you have AAA or roadside get it towed ASAP considering you didn't know what it was in the first place. It's most definitely differential fluid:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19218 That's how you fill it, if you can't do it get the dealer to do it.

I don't know that a tow is really needed yet but it certainly needs to get in and be checked (or Ike Hum said check it yourself but if somebody doesn't know what the diff is they should be getting somebody else to check for now)

It doesn't need to be down on oil very much to start to damage the diff. You have no clue how much oil is in there. If you're handy and can get a ride to get oil & try and figure out the issue, or top it off and drive it to a shop and get it fixed or have it towed.
