Burning clutch smell in reverse...
I have a VERY narrow driveway on a hill. I have bend in it with a massive tree (1m diameter) one side, and an unforgiving rock wall on the other. There is less than 1/2 foot clearance either side of my car. Because of the nature of this driveway, reversing takes patience, concentration and a whole lot of clutch play.
In my WRX I had no problem, but in this BRZ my car smells like an egg factory by the time I get out. I'm using the same technique. I hope I'm not damaging the car :/. I'm not sure there is a way I can modify my driving. I've been reversing out of this driveway for 15 years! * hah from using search... Perhaps this is normal?! |

Reverse in to the driveway instead and drive straight out? Without seeing exactly what the situation is like, that sounds like the simplest solution.

Looking at your post history it seems you just recently got the car. So yes, that smell is normal for a new twin. The clutch may stink for a few thousand miles, especially when you're in a situation that requires a lot of slip. But once it's fully worn in it will stop.
This car has a lot of weird quirks that are actually normal. If you want to get really, really drunk, read through this forum with a bottle of your favorite liquor in front of you and take a shot every time you see a reference to something being normal. |

Yeah, it's still burning off the cutting fluids and fingerprints.

had a similar situation with the backing in of a fairly aggressive slope. Clutch smell goes away when car has some mileage on it!

You could cut down the tree get the stump removed and make your driveway straight....

When I got my clutch upgraded at 15000km the stock clutch looked like it's new even with all that smell. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmm, interesting... I too have just smelled burning clutch while parking with what seemed to be not an excessive amount of slipping and relatively early at about 2500km on the odo. In my case, kind of up a slope and around garage crap... hoping by around 5,000km+ I never smell it again... *cheers*
