Race fuel

For people with supercharger and or turbo. Do you run race fuel at the track? Im tuned on 94 but have not been on the track yet since supercharging the car (fear of it blowing up) Anyone track their car and run race fuel? If so, where do you get it and what kind are you running? From my understanding: 100oct will protect my motor from knock and ECU wont pull timing as it gets hotter. Granted i wont make any additional power with 100oct but i will maintain power levels as it temps rise on the track.

I used to mix in some Sunoco 260 GTX, 98 octane, just for peace of mind. Once I finally got some good track day logging done, I realized I didn't need to. My car is still NA, though.

I got the gas from a station out in St. Mary's. Can't remember the name. You can go to www.racegas.com/fuelfinder to find your closest station/dealer of the Sunoco fuels.

I race mine on 94 with methanol injection. Could also use water injection to cool down. Definitely easier to find.

You want to make sure you're tuned properly for the octane you're running. Running too high of octane can be dangerous too because higher octane actually burns slower. It can lead to the fuel burning on the way out of the engine instead of completely in the combustion chamber.

If you're heat soaking to the point of timing being pulled back, adding octane is just a band aid as well. You'll want to keep heat in check first.

I think the race gas that NV is carrying is all e85 based, which is awesome!

That is what i was thinking too. If im tuned on 100oct lets say and use 100oct at the track. Wouldn't that put me in the same scenario as being tuned on 94 and using 94 on the track? Jackson racing says to use 100+oct at the track when using their SC kit so i figured mixing 100oct with some 94 would give me a margin of safety instead of using 94 strictly.

Are you using their tune, or a custom one? This is something to talk to the tuner about, not just blindly guess.

Custom tune by Sasha. Sasha recommended racefuel at the track (unleaded and non oxgyenated) but i figured if im running racefuel i need a tune for it to adjust timing and what not.

At the same time i dont understand why being tuned on 100oct is any different then 94 (besides power). Would it provide more protection even if timing and such has been adjusted to maximize power on 100?

If the tune is maximized for a given octane, then there's no more safety net regardless of what octane it was tuned for.

If Sasha suggested running race gas on the track, I'd listen to him. Might be worth asking what octane he suggests, 100 is less of a difference than jumping up to 110 from 94.

You could also ask for a less aggressive tune that's safer for track use if you don't want to have to source race gas. Race gas is significantly more expensive than 94 pump.

That makes more sense now. Costs are adding up quickly that's for sure ahaha. Brz will soon just be a track car, just need to find space for a trailer. Averaging 12L/100km with the added noise and being 6"3 tall is not fun for a daily driver.
