Next AutoX Purchase
Just wanted some opinions for my next purchase. Camber Plates or New Tires.
Getting more into AutoX and plan to take the next step. Currently running on 245/40 MPSS with RCE Tarmac Springs/Bilstein B8 Shocks. I have camber bolts installed giving me -1.5 up front and the rears at -2 naturally from the 20mm drop. The MPSS are a great tire but do leave me wanting more during autoX runs. As well as the -1.5 camber. Decent on the street, but definitely want more for AutoX. Car behaves well as is but I wanna take it to the next level. Plan is to get another set of wheels along with some Bridgestone RE-71R's for AutoX days and some RCE street camber plates to bump the camber up to around -2.5 or -3. I will be getting both by the end of the year, however; I was just wondering if there was a better order to go in. Tires or camber first. One part of me says tires because that is the biggest factor in driving and lap times. The other part says camber first so I can get the most out of the tires when I get them later. Or should I just sat F it and do it all in one shot and stop being a cheap bastard ![]() Opinions are appreciated, Thanks Everyone |

I would go for tires personally. I went from "performance" tires to race tires, hands down biggest gain in performance (provided your suspension can handle it, mines really high spring rates) however check the rules for what you can run in your class.

Tires will probably be a better performance bump, but camber will be a better first step investment since it should help your tires wear more evenly. Since it's not my money, spend more now and get them both at once is the best option.

tires.
With another set a track wheels the camber shouldn't be an issue. Since you'll only be using them for autox they would not wear that much.

-1.5 is decent enough camber. Get the tires now and save for plates.

That's tough. You'll want both pretty much at the same time. I'm not sure if you'd benefit as much with getting camber plates first since the kind of camber adjustment you'll have possibly won't best utilized by your current tires. If you get RE71R first, you'll probably want more camber than -1.5º otherwise you'll eventually run into uneven wear, and you'll need to flip the tires.

Camber, otherwise you'll chew up those nice new tires that should last two seasons.
And going up to -3 degrees of camber is absolutely beneficial even on an otherwise entirely stock setup, I really liked my car when it was totally stock with the exception of camber plates and tires and brake pads. I enjoyed the camber plate upgrade more than going from OE tires to Dunlop Z2SS. For raw performance today, tires absolutely win out, but for developing a competitive autocross car, start working out the alignment first before burning up good tires farting around IMO. |

Agree with Strat. I would go camber plates first while you finish off your MPSS tires. Then upgrade to 71R's at the end of the season and your setup will be ready for them.
BTW I'm still wearing the outside edges of my front tires @ -2.4 degrees, so you'll probably want closer to -3.0 degrees.

I appreciate the input everyone. Looks like camber plates will be my next purchase followed by tires in the next few months. I'll post up a review when I get them installed. Plus, I can still blame my crappy times on tires
