Need Help with Michelin Warranty
These are Michelin X-Ice 3's that were purchased on 11/27/14 with less than 3000 miles on them. Went back to the place I bought them because it had a weird low speed vibration. They completely missed the weird wear patch the first time and this morning they told me it's from hard braking at high speeds. Sounds like bullshit to me because I don't drive like an asshole. Considering they missed it when they mounted them twice and gave me a balance I didn't need, I'm not so sure I trust their expertise considering they needed to look in a book and didn't bother calling Michelin to try and warranty the tires because the guy said Michelin wouldn't do a thing for me. Knowing how good customer service is with Michelin pro-rating at the very least, I could tell I'm not going to get him to do anything.
Here's a few pics of the wear on one of the wheels and I have the same thing on two of them. I'm guessing they were originally in the rear and pics are from the rear passegerside: ![]() ![]() ![]() Obviously I'm no expert, but there are some here! ![]() Any help is appreciated. I assume that you mean they were purchased on November 27, 2013 (not 2014), and I also assume that you mean they have less than 3,000 miles on them now, not when you purchased them. The Michelin X-Ice 3 is an excellent tire, but the individually cut tread blocks will not tolerate much abuse, particularly in the dry. You said that you're not to blame, but the wear appears to be caused by a locked wheel on dry pavement (spinning under acceleration would cause more uniform damage) - are you sure you didn't lock a wheel under braking or slide the car using the parking brake? It's interesting that the tire pictured was on the rear of the car.
Do you have a road hazard warranty? If so, use it. If all else fails, call Michelin's customer service line and make your case, but I think you're going to have a tough time by the looks of it. Good luck and let us know how things work out for you. Last edited by RJasonKlein; 11-24-2014 at 11:33 PM. Reason: Realized the poster had addressed one of my questions already. |
