strange smell - kerosine

hey guys,

I have had my car for about 3 weeks and it has 3200 km on it (2400 of that was the drive back from ADL). I noticed today under accelleration a stange kerosine smell in the cabin.

I am thinking this is dirty fuel (yes it's 98) but thought i would ask, i have looked in the engine bay and everything is full with no leaks, though i can faintly smell it towards the back of the engine

any ideas?

I don't think it would be brake fluid.
Does it only happen when the car is cold?
Best bet is to take it to the service centre, and have them inspect it.

From my experience, the blokes at the Toyota service centre are pretty much hopeless as well. It's funny and annoying at the same time when we know even more about the car than they do

I'm guessing the Subie mechanics would be more at home in the engine bay though.

I worked at a subie service centre for a short time (as an apprentice), and they knew what they were doing, can't comment on Toyota service centre, never dealt with them (yet).
So, I agree with proficience, take it to Subie.

Haha, I never said take it to Subaru

I was just commenting on my personal experience with the Toyota Service Centre that I dealt with for my inspection (and next 4 services) and assuming that Subaru would be in a better position to assess the car based on the fact that the whole engine bay is basically Subaru parts...
