Ok so my 2013 automatic FRS seems to be acting up. It only has 4800 miles on it and the transmission seems to slip sometimes when it upshifts. Its one of the lower gears. Like its at the point where is should shift and then is sits and revs at like 3500 rpm for a few seconds then shifts. Its not clunking into gear but it doesnt seem right. I used to have a 1999 honda accord thats transmission went bad and it feels similar to that, just no clunking. Any advice before i take it back to the dealer and look like an idiot if nothing is wrong? This happens during normal acceleration sometimes, which seems odd to me

I assume you are leaving it in regular drive? I have an auto and often drive it in power mode, which holds gears at high-ish (3500 rpm+) a little too long at times so I tap the right paddle to shift up now and then. It will, much like your example, eventually shift up when maintaining the same steady amount of throttle input.
If this is happening while leaving it in regular drive mode and not manually messing with gear selection then it should be smoothly changing gears without hesitating. If not the case I would certainly be taking it in to be looked at.

Yeah this is in regular drive. I know in sport mode it does hold the revs at 3500ish like you said, but this is happening without being in sport mode at all

Never buy a Honda with auto trans...that's their weakest component...always has been. followup for mikev77: In the early 90s I was working as a tech at a Honda New Car Stealerhip. The 1990 and up Accords were having their auto trans replaced by Honda up to 100,000 miles...yet it was a hush hush deal...free it was if you knew to ask. Also my xwife had a 2000 Odyssey van. Trans crapped out. Cost to repair about 3800 dollars. She had lots of miles on the car in very few years time...her job required driving about 45k per year. A year later, Honda gave her the money back. Not sure about most recent Hondas, yet it's been a problem, auto trans that is, since early 1980s, don't expect it's changed much...but I have no data. As for the FRS, yea, take it in, should be covered and repaired no cost to you. Last edited by ToySub1946; 12-04-2014 at 03:44 AM. |

Yeah toysub1946 I found that out the hard way. Crapped out at 109 000 miles. I had a 95 before that that had almost 190 000 miles and it was still going strong. Im calling the dealer tomorrow. I dont think a car with 4000 miles on its transmission should slip

Shoutout from another who's experienced a 6th gen Accord with an auto transmission failure. Great car otherwise. Our Accord never did any holding of gears, instead it revved up during shifts. Ended up learning the shift computer enough to know when to lift to have it shift smooth. Only thing I might be able to add here, are you only experiencing this is second gear? I say this because it's in second gear that the torque converter locks in this car so it behaves a bit differently than the other gears. I drive in manual mode all the time so I really notice the TC locking, but with the transmission shifting in a bit more 'relaxed' way in regular drive mode maybe that has something to do with it and it isn't as obvious. |

So late reply but I took it to the dealer a few months ago and they said nothing was wrong with it. Well here I am a few months later and it seems like its getting mildly worse. It seems like it over revs before shifting where it should, it hesitates in 2nd gear, and acceleration doesnt seem smooth anymore. It really seems like a transmission problem. I change the oil every 3000 miles with the dealer oil recomended for the car so I know it cant be an engine problem. I just feel like the dealer will give me the run around because it isnt throwing any codes at this point and they probably dont want to shell out the money to fix it

Is there another dealer that you can take it to for a second opinion? It has been almost 8 years since I've been to the islands.

@Demandred7 yes there is another one i will probably go to for the second opinion. I bought the car with 2500 miles on it and im starting to feel like it was the test car people took out for a spin....no reason a transmission should be acting up with 10k miles on it

@Demandred late reply haha. I took it to another dealer and they ran some diagnostics and drove it around with me and said everything seemed normal on it. Must be fine haha

@mikev77 I would say go into the dealer and test drive a brand new one then see if it acts the same as yours. Or just change the oil and see if that helps.
