Engine ECU independant from rest of car??

Hi all,

I think you are deeper into tuning the FA20 maps stateside than we are in the UK. I have a question that i hope someone can answer...

I have Ecutek hardware and a license for each of my GT86's, one stock one being modded.. In the UK we don't get the option to not have all the extras such as keyless entry and Push button start.

I would like to remove the keyless entry and push button start from my track biased car, yet retain the stock ECU, Have any of you guys found a way to do this yet?

One more question, I have removed all of the airbag wiring and ECU from the loom. The ECU contains a yaw meter and a G meter. Will the removal of the unit affect my traction control and VSC?

The ECU engine control unit contols the engine only however it also talks to other control units in the car like he BIU body interface unit which control many functions like lighting power steeing, then their is direct injector control unit , vechicle stability control.

The ecu also talks to dashccluster and imobiliser unit for security lock unlock and start.

All these different control units talk on the CAN bus. Once you start removing or messing with inputs to these control units you risk triggerring either security issues ie car wont start or the other units will signal ecu thier is a problem and you trigger limp home mode ie reduced power and limitrpm to 4000. Its possible removing airbags and vsc unit will trrigger limp home mode as ecu will see that unit is missing and assume its failed.
I think your going to run into a lot of issues removing those systems, im not an expert in doing this stuff, but you may end up needing a aftermarket ecu like motec or hydra ems that ddoes not require inputs from those systems but will drive the systems you need like power steering.
