First Post: Long road to ruin (well not really)
Well I never thought I'd have to post my "hello" under these circumstances but here it goes... (HEADS UP this post will be a bit lengthy)
I took delivery of my 2014 manual asphalt FR-S this past July and due to my procrastinating nature, I wasn't going to post until my girls one year birthday. A little about me, as this is my first post, I'm 19 and have been saving up for a car since my prepubescent days. My dream finally became a reality this past July as I was able to purchase one of my absolute favourite cars. Growing up, I was always exposed to cars and car culture. My family, being filled with petrol head europeans, introduced me to motorsports at a young age and I've been karting ever since. When I first heard about this car in 2012, I became absolutely infatuated with it. "A true drivers car for purist alike". I had to test one and see if it's what scion claims it to be, and oh boy was it. I fell in love with the car all over again and knew I had to own one. Years passed and there I was driving it out of the dealership lot with a huge smile on my face. ![]() This past year driving has been nothing short of amazing. I love everything about this car and having tracked her 4 times has made me fall in love more then I did when I first picked it up. To date I have no mods done as I am still paying it off, however, plans to make her look and sound mean are shortly underway. Now to the bad part... Today while I was driving home from school I got into an accident. An absolute moron, to say the least, was speeding out of my neighbourhood and staring at his crotch texting. As I turned into the subdivision taking it slow, weary of the blind left and the wet road conditions, I was greeted by this idiots car on my side of the road and immediately had to swerve into the gravel shoulder to avoid hitting him. As I tried to regain traction by counter steering and proper throttle control, it was too much and the car spun 180 degrees, slid all the way across the road, and went ass first into a ditch. Luckily I was safe and the ditch I backed into wasn't very deep, causing no visible damage to the car. The imbecile in the other car did not stop and fled the neighbourhood before I could make him realize how stupid his actions were. As of now no damage to my car is known besides the front right wheel having rocks lodged between the rubber and rim. I have a service booked for Friday to inspect the suspension components and double check that everything is a-okay. p.s Hey to all the twin owners up in the Stouffville/Aurora area! I've seen many of you around and drool every time your cars drive past me haha. |

Welcome! Sounds like an opportunity for a real alignment. Find someone with a good reputation for attention to detail and getting it just right.

Welcome.
This is one of the reasons why for low speed type accidents I don't suggest dodging and just letting the accident happen. It sounds counter intuitive but you can get in a lot more trouble by dodging someone who isn't paying attention to the road and hitting someone or something else or even if you just end up in a ditch. A couple years ago I had a girl decide at the last minute to go from a left hand turn lane across two other lanes of traffic and nearly sideswipe my Mustang. The only thing that kept her from nailing my drivers side door was to steer the car into the curb at 40mph. When the cop showed up, he blamed me for failure to maintain control even though I avoided the accident. Without coming out and saying it it was my fault because she never made contact with me and mine was the only one that left the road way. So even though it sucks getting into a fender bender, because of the backwards ass laws out there, you can get in a lot more trouble avoiding an accident than letting it happen.

Welcome and this probably provides no assurance but at least you didnt hit a tree or other sturdy object. Hope the suspension and everything else is really ok though!
And I second the person's post above mine, it's human nature to try and avoid an accident but if you end up hitting someone else, you'll be at fault. Still, glad your car seems ok!

Obligatory "Why was traction control off in wet conditions?" post.

Yup. I'm sure people lose control of their cars all on their own and tell insurance companies they were driven off the road by some bozo who was never really there. If it's true or not true, it doesn't matter much as far as the insurance company cares; they still have a claim. Thirty seven years ago I was driving a friend's Ghia with him in the passenger side. Came around a corner and I had a choice to either go into the car in my lane or hit the rock wall on the passenger side. I hit the car and the first thing my friend said was "Boy, am I glad you hit her and not that wall." Her insurance paid for the fix. |

Are you sure you weren't drifting around a corner? Don't see how you lost control that badly while going "slowly"...

And how does one see somebody "staring at his crotch texting" in an oncoming, speeding car that probably sits higher than a FRS? Was gonna be nice and not ask that question but since you opened the door...

Or, he put it into the ditch entirely on his own, driving outside of his ability and now he's just putting up a story to make himself look less silly. Just not connecting how slowly=spinning out on gravel Edit: take this with a grain of salt though, the fastest my car has ever been is 146kmh, and been legitimately sideways once |

That was earlier on in my drive haha, I toned down near home. I baby my car as it's something I worked for and still am working for. This means I drive her slowly and cautiously until it safe to let loose and do some spirited driving. P.S Who doesn't drive their car like the guy in the second picture at times lets be honest haha.Quote:
I have now clue why the car didn't stop, it baffles me that they just left however it happened and I was luckily left with no harm to myself or the car. I'm not offended by your post at all, I can see how the story is confusing and frankly it baffles me as well! Never thought I'd be in this situation in my own neighbourhood. Hopefully that cleared things up |

10/10, OP. Good on ya.
Again, welcome! I spun mine within the first week. Just some tiny wet patches on an off-camber turn. Wide space - no vehicles - no harm. Totally agree with you. Anybody that says they haven't played with it is either FOS or, well, I dunno. I see some old ladies driving BRZs occasionally. |

TL;DR:
Sorry, but nothing that you wrote aside from this is relevant.
