E-Brake clunk?

I've noticed that if I apply the e-brake while moving (slow or fast), the very first time there's quite a loud clunk in the rear of the car.

If I do it again, there's no noise. It only clunks if I've been driving for a while (presumable been using my brakes or reversing the load on the axle / hubs)

Does this happen for anyone else?

It's the drum brake engaging. It'll clunk every time you engage it.

Question is, why are you engaging it while you're moving?

Slowing down in front of cops without my brake lights saying "HEY LOOK AT ME SPEEDING OVER HERE!!!"

It's not something I do a lot, but the noise concerned me a bit.

This freaked me out so bad when I first got the car. Best to use it only as a parking brake or in real emergencies. (cop=emergency)

It's really only a parking brake. Ever since drum-in-hat became standard, the idea of 'emergency brake' went out the window.

Umm..probably better to just let off the gas.... and if you are really going that fast, maybe drop down a gear....
