thunk when shifting into first

Had the car a little over 24 hrs now. Something I noticed yesterday on the way home (dealer is 2 hrs away) When going into first from neutral clutch out, the first time there is a thunk and it sounds like it is coming from the rear end but is felt thru the whole drivetrain.

Once in first you can shift in and out of the other gears and never hear or feel it again. Its just when shifting into first from neutral for the first time. Scenario.. like leaving your driveway for the first time in the morning, or shifting into first after a long stoplight where you had the car in neutral and had the clutch out.

Anyone else?

Thinking perhaps it has something to do with the nannies?

Push the clutch in sooner when going from a start. Rather than sitting in neutral (when a light turns green) and pushing clutch in and shifting into first quickly, keep the clutch pushed in (longer, as in before the light turns green) then put it in first.

Thanks, all the threads about clunks and thuds and pops figured it would be quicker to get the right response this way.

Even that thread you linked has several different issues in it, though at least one other has the same as I get. (I only notice mine while stationary when i put the car in gear, not when i release the clutch)

This freaked me out when I first got my car too. I googled around and found this information from Subaru.

Quote:
BRZ MANUAL TRANSMISSION SOUNDS

You may notice, or customers may question, a "thump" or "thunk" sound intermittently when placing the new six-speed manual transmission into first or reverse while stopped. This is a characteristic of the transmission operation which occurs when any remaining input shaft rotation is brought to a quick stop by gear selection. If enough time is given for the shaft to stop turning on its own, then no thump will occur. No wear or damage is occurring as a result of this action. This sound may be more noticeable as the gear oil warms and gear selection is able to be accomplished with greater speed.
It's normal, but annoying. Like it says, it happens more easily when the car is fully warmed up.
