Question 2016 FRS Automatic - Looking for Performance Upgrades

Hi all,

I'm new to the car community and I'm looking to find relatively cheap options to get more horsepower and torque for my FRS. Additional noise would be appreciated as well but is not my primary focus.

What would you guys recommend? It is worth noting as well that I still have a 1 year end to end warranty and 3 years powertrain that I would like to not void.

Thank you!

Q: I have *insert amount of money*, which mods should I buy?
A: There's no one answer to this. It's all comes down to WHAT YOU ARE EXPECTING FROM THIS CAR OR WHAT'S YOUR GOAL FROM THIS CAR. Best, check Member Journals.

I hate to say this but any mod that will amount in a power increase like I think you mean will more than likely void some part of your warranty. Such as headers and a tune which would probably be the best bang for buck to get increased power while maintaining a budget.

When you refer to an exhaust, would I be good to just get new headers?

Thanks for all the help from everyone by the way!

Nope, headers will void your warranty! My car is under warranty as well. I just take my aftermarket parts off and put the factory parts on when i go to the dealer for service. Hope this helps!

Anything you do will only void the warranty if it is the cause of the failure.

For an automatic I recommend getting a 4.8 final drive. It will make your car feel more alive. This is of course at the cost of higher rpm cruising and slight decrease in gas mileage.

If you have access to e85 pick up an oft and run it. Cheapest and most stealthy mod.

Welcome to the forum. Modding an auto isn’t really much different then modding a manual. However I have a heavily modified auto so can shed some light on expectations. As in 0-60 / 1/4mile times will be slower then a manuals would be. Although almost entirely off the line from launching. From a roll practically the same.

Now to the inquiry at hand.

What is your budget? Both short and long term?
Short term and long term goals?
Expectations?
Current and future use? DD, spirited driving, canyons, autox, track, drag, hwy pulls?

Also as mentioned, no modification voids a warranty. They have to prove the modification directly led to the issue or failure. And the majority of mods can be completely reversed if warranty work was goin to be needed. But if modded properly your mods hopefully won’t be the cause of any issue or none should occur.

My FRS is my daily driver and I want the car to feel a little more alive and have a bit more oomph during everyday driving and increase the sound of the engine/exhaust a little bit.

Start with a catless header and a tune then build from there.
Spend lots of time researching on this forum...there's tons of great information here. Many have started where you are and gone down this long, never ending road, including myself...it is addictive...you have been warned.
