How much power?

I'm just curious if anyone knows how much power we can put through the stock transmission MT and AT before it grenades?

Most WRX Transmissions seem to be handling 350-400whp with no problems.

No one actually knows for sure yet. There are a few 400whp manuals and auto's running around without issues yet, Full-Blown has run 521whp through theirs without gernading. There is a 2JZ swapped GT86 (can't remember the location) but he broke an axle at 580-600 wtq. The auto's seem to be able to handle more power, manuals need a clutch around 280whp or around 220-250 wtq.

Remember, you will need a new clutch at around 220-225 WTQ before it starts to slip. The Auto's Torque box can handle alot more. Please use the as this has been discussed alot already.

Torque is what breaks the transmission not HP, and as far as the wrx, you could break the tranny on a stock 02 stock, it was AWD putting more strain on the gears coupled with weak gears.

To be fair, Horsepower = (Torque x Engine Speed)/5252. So if torque breaks the tranny, HP being a function of torque must therefore also break the tranny.

Funny, you always hear torque breaks stuff. Now that I think about it, it's always been HP. If you shock load a tranny with 200ft/lb at 2500rpm it's hardly the same as 200ft/lb at 9000rpm. Same torque...just slightly different HP (95 vs. 342)!

Not really 230hp on a ej205 is very different from the same amount of hp on a ej255. The ej255 will make an insane amount of torque.

I want you to say that to one of my old engineering professors. Just so I can see his head explode.

Edit: to be clear, I would want you to tell him that the HP equation mentioned above isn't necessarily true.

(151 torquex6600)/5252= 189.75628332064 horsepower

Pretty darn close. You know, the low dynos would make more sense if this equation were true...

You people are dense, an ej255 is a 2.5l turbo motor on 06 and up wrx it makes way more torque down low than and ej205 which is a 2.0l motor, the torque is what will break the real measured power, hp is a calculation based on set power.

People who say to search are worse then people who ask questions already been discussed. Its not that easy for everyone to search specific topics like this even if its already been discussed no one likes to read old threads that are bumped from a long time ago.

This question can be asked again as it is a question that can vary since this car is still new.

Not everyone is familiar with how forums work and its not that easy for some questions to be found using search.\

Its not bad to have a new discussion on some topics since this car is farely new and things could of happened since the last time this question was asked.
