Can this part be replaced?

Hi all, wondering if this bit on the door panel can be removed/replaced? In Australia the base spec model doesnt come with this part padded. I am wondering if I can purchase the pad and install it myself?

I've been trying not to set my arm on that piece for many reasons. It looks and feels like it can be ruined

Is it different between the BRZ and FRS??? Mine feels secure and high quality! I'd like to add the knee pads to match eventually.
