Trying to identify a noise

Looking for assistance troubleshooting noise coming from steering column area. 2013 frs, on gravel or when hitting a bump the car makes a noise. Had it checked by Toyota and they are telling me it's a warped knuckle "occured over time and miles" and want to replace the steering column. 43k on car.

Post up a video or get a second opinion from another reputable shop you know of.

If Toyota checked out the car and told you what the problem is, what reason do you have to doubt that?

What kind of noise? My car makes all sorts of noises.

Heh, that about says it all. I'd wager every owner of these cars has a specific noise that bugs them... Is there a thread for that already?

I'll go: Somewhere around the C-pillar on the passenger side there's a noise that's exactly like a seat belt hanging out of a back door and slapping the body (I'd dailied several big ass sedans before getting the FR-S). Mine's been like that since the day I got it some 80k and almost 4 years ago, and I still hear it every single day.

Oh, not really. After I got over 75, the car got quieter -

I'm reasonably sure it's actually the isolation washer in the steering column that absorbs vibrations between the electric steering motor and the column itself. I had to replace it on my 2013 last year.

You can read through the whole thread, or start around here for the gist of things.

Ermax also made a good DIY thread.

When I took it in the tech traced it to the column, but at the time the only fix was to replace the entire steering column (for 1800 bucks or so). The actual fix is the just the washer which is a $10 part.
