New MT intake manifold fit original 2013 FA20?
Title says it all...
Does anyone know if the newer design intake manifold for MT 86/BRZ cars, part # SU00306453, can simply be bolted onto my new replacement engine in my MT 2013 FRS, thusly enjoying the 5hp increase and slight professed remediation of the dreaded torque-and-cheese dip? I figure since the dealership was forthright enough to pony up a new engine, I might as well make it COMPLETELY new and throw them a few bucks for their trouble, but only if it makes sense. Bolt on replacement? Anything else in the chain need to be updated too when doing so, if it IS a direct replacement? Inquiring minds and all... thanks.

EDIT: I did not read your post correctly, I saw intake and thought airbox, not plenum. Opps
For the dollars a TRD intake would be better. The main benifit from the 17+ intake is the actual filter design and material. Paper filter with more pleats to give a larger surface area. The 17+ filter is actually smaller IRT length and width. I would be interested in the price difference of the 17+ and the TRD (new items of course).

The 5 hp increase was done via total engine revision, not just the aluminum intake,
to quote TCOAT way back when Quote:
"NOTE: To mount the DI ECU, you can modify the older bracket or purchase a newer bracket for bolt on install. You can also purchase the Velox / FT86SF ECU bracket and choose from 3 anodized color" Read here for more: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128583 I personally want to play with the alum intake with some porting and flow benching it ( Subaru intakes often have a weaker plenum out of the others. only old turbo models it was the number 4 that was get the least air, less noticeable with boost.) |

As I've already stated, I tried and failed and have already apologized for the duplicitous thread. Thanks for your valuable contribution. Your bedside manner sucks, "Doc." Why do people have to be such vinegar and water mixtures? And...if yoi'd like to point me to the other four threads, or suggest search terms and techniques that would bring them up successfully, I'd appreciate it. Of course, that would be helpful and wouldn't belittle anyone....why bother, right?

The same people who will get butt hurt about someone making a new thread, will be the same ones who get butt hurt at people for necroing old threads. They almost never contribute any value to any thread. They are only here to shutdown conversation. Who cares if someone makes a thread about something already discussed, or necros an old thread. No one is making you click on it, or participate in it.

Why not get the RacerX manifold instead?
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133276 http://racerxfabrication.com/frs-brz...ntake-manifold Probably a cheaper and much better option. |

However the original plastic manifold is not a restriction until pumping through a lot of boost. I think they slightly changed the runner length / angles to slightly change the torque curve more in the mid range especially in the dip area. the dip in the 17+ seems smaller and shorter. However I don't think it contributed much if any at all to the actually 5hp peak power gain. This would be something that might be worth while after full header back, intake, and tune have already been done. Although being aluminum and not plastic it may be prone to more heat soak and could be a trade off. The plastic one is already pretty well designed. |

Long awaited answer lol YES you can directly drop in and install the intake manifold. I recently swapped it over, and its not just paint and thats it. The intake manifold actually brings in more air, solid, and looks great. Worth the money especially if you plan to go boosted. Currently have a boosted setup so it works. The only differences is I believe the oem ecu and rail covers need to be cut for fitment. I replaced them with the velox covers at the time so it fit perfectly. The ecu covers need a tad trimming, but no biggie. Also the MAF bolt is different so if you plan on ordering the intake manifold make sure to get the bolt thats for the MAF, and the gasket. |

more air... well, i tuned a friend's car withouth and with it, only difference is a biiit more air from 7000 rpm to redline (Hks v2 car) from what i can see from the maf scaling that resulted
also, it s a MAP sensor that is fitted on it, not MAF also, lot of heat soaking, and heat soaking kills performance more than the tiny bit of air it gains |
