I'm tad curious, I currently have a 2015 FRS. Prior to posting this I did my search and did not yielded any results too my inquiry, so don't bash me on if I missed something.
Some people are saying to use Subaru OEM Oil Filters, (smaller/taller once) meanwhile others are saying to use Toyota OEM Oil Filters. I recently picked up (2) Toyota OEM Filters, Part #: 90915-YZZS1 And now with tad bit more reading, I'm wondering if the Toyota OEM filter is just as good as the Subaru OEM filter, or should I get the Subaru OEM filters next time? I mean it's just an OEM filter, this isn't K&M or HKS $40+ filter. |

Subaru motor so I'd use a Subaru filter. Either way you're not going wrong.

You're thinking too hard about oil filters. Both are fine.

Id say you are splitting hairs picking between them, both OEM filters are good quality. Stay away from the orange can of death and you are fine.
I run amsoil EA15K20-EA. |

If you have so much crap in your oil that one filter is better than another then you have bigger issues.

When I get them from Subaru they ask my VIN # because there are different filters for different build periods. The difference in the filters are related to valving and flow rates. I don't know if Toyota breaks it down that way.

No. You just walk in, explain you have a FRS + Year and here is your filter. No VIN has ever been asked of me.
