supplementary oil pump
Hi Guys,
wondering if anyone has wired a secondary electric oil pump into the block? reasons: [1] supplement low oil pressure as needed, like at warm idle [2] provide some oil pressure to block before cold start [3] minimize oil starvation during steady state cornering (?) I am thinking of a small electrical pump that provides 2 or 3 GPM of flow from the oil pan to the block. I would tap the oil pan (or use an aftermarket tapped one) with a line through an inline filter, then a check valve, to the pump, out to a galley connector on the block. Pump can be triggered manually via momentary switch or via low pressure oil switch at say 10psi. This approach just moves the existing oil around better, it doesn't add oil to the system like an accusump (accumulator) might do at warm idle when trying to raise pressure. one source for pumps: https://www.rbracing-rsr.com/oilsystems.htm Anyone done this or seen something similar? thx canyons Last edited by canyons; 02-08-2018 at 12:40 AM. |

Full Blown has an oil pan that would probably work for that. Where would you put the oil? That is, where in the block are you planning to put the output from this pump? Would you need a check valve in the block oil gallery to keep from stalling the oil upstream? or is this more of a spray-it-where-you-need-it thing? Interested in this idea.

I was planning on going into one of the existing galley connectors, simpler is better. Probably the one at the front top of the block so the oil has to drain down back to the pan. Yes I was thinking of the Full Blown oil pan idea, extra quart of pan capacity ( makes it more likely there'll be oil in the pan for the pump! ) and an output port. Thanks!
