Scir16v's flood car

Hey guys. I had an FRS prior to this one, but had to sell to finance a garage.

I bought this car at Copart auto auction in November. One of those flood cars from Houston.

This is of course trailering it home.

I got this one as it seemed the most promising. The wheels are gram lights 57DR sized @ 18x9.5 +38. Wrapped in Hankook Ventus v12 that are 245/35/18

It has spec-d tuning headlights, which will be getting an HID upgrade in the future. It also has spec-d tailights. and some random led corner markers.

Moving to exhaust, quite surprised to find a Berk muffler delete.

Suspending the car is a set of Tein Flex Z coilovers

As far as stock options, it does have the first gen Bespoke headunit.

I have done some work on the car. I found that it had water oin one of the cylinders. I removed the exhaust manifold and also went through the process of changing the plugs as it has 74k on the clock.

After getting the water out of the cylinders and draining the oil. Putting in fresh oil with a few more detergents(aka Diesel engine oil) I tried to turn it over.

Unfortunately, it punched a hole in the block. Back cylinder, passenger side.

Now that I know there was potential for having a bad motor with any water being in it. It knocked during it trying to startup. I tried to prime it before any startup, but I think it was a goner before then.

So the next thing is to swap the motor out. I have a lead on a 40k mile motor locally and will be getting that after the first of the year.

Updates then

Good luck on the build, will be a fun project. Mind telling how much money you have in it so far?

Just a stock swap for now. I need to get it registered as a prior salvage car

Eventually I'll do some sort of motor swap to it.

Alright guys. So, I picked up a motor that has 65,xxx on it.

First couple of questions.

I know that the suburu threebond doesn't seem to be a great sealant.

Has anybody resealed the timing chain cover with ultra grey RTV? I've had good luck in the past on SR motors.

Where can I find lifting hooks fir these motors? I get that I could just lift from the intake, but plastic, ugh.

I'm interested to see pics of what condition the rest of the car is in! Is/was the interior caked with mud??

After pushing the FRS to the back burner for winter and working on the getting the new garage floor ready for use, I was able to get this thing into said garage.

I have bought some other parts for the motor change. I got a fidanza flywheel and an exedy oem clutch. Versus clutch fork and pivot, along with arp flywheel bolts.

Pulling the engine next week.

When I rebuilt my engine I stuck with the TB1217H. Who knows what the longevity will be though. The 1217H comes in a tube that fits in a calk gun which was really nice. In the past I always done Permatex in the normal toothpaste like tubes and they are a pain in the ass to use because your hands get all cramped up. If you go with Permatex go for the caulk gun tube.

As for lift points, there is already a hook on the back of the engine. What I did for the front was unbolt the AC and then reuse one of the AC bolts as a hook. I wrapped the bolt in duct tape so the threads didn't get damaged and also made sure I screwed it in as far as possible giving just enough to get my hook on it but no more.

Pulling this engine is super easy. Putting it back in went smooth too.

The only other thing I can think to point out is the fuel lines need a special tool to disconnect them. I found a video of some guy using zip ties to release the lines. Search YouTube and you will find it. I cut the ends of the zip ties off so they weren't pointed anymore. Then you look closely at the inside of the release and you will see the tabs. Jam the zip ties into those tabs (they are 180deg apart) and it will release.

So I got it all back together and ran into a wall.

The car runs great, everything works, drives like a dream. Titling issues are causing me to determine what to do next.

Had no idea that there is a branding of car title that doesn't allow you to rebuild the car for road use.

Still trying to figure out if there is some sort of loophole to get around it, but not sure.

So, it may be for sale soon as a off-road use only car (I.E. Racecar) or a complete part out.

Stay tuned for details
