Anyone else having to regularly deal with cold weather issues?
Is anyone else having these issues when the temps get in the 20's(F)?
1. Throttle unlearns and the car acts sluggish - solution is that it has to go through the throttle calibration (put the key into on mode without starting, hold down accelerator for 10 sec then let go; do it three times then shut the car off) 2. Windows unlearn their indexing causing the things to get stuck when opening the car and of course the windows then dont roll back up if you partially lower them - solution being to run them all the way down then back up and hold for a sec to relearn the position) Ive never had to deal with a car unlearn stuff so often - maybe its just the unusually cold weather but its kinda silly to have to spend a couple minutes playing with things before you can even get the car going... |

Sounds like a bad battery issue potentially.

Had the window issue on quite a few occasions, especially when parked outside during freezing rain. No issues with the throttle.

If the windows get stuck because they are frozen it can cause your problem #2. If that's the case, apply a lot a silicon spray on the rubbers and bottom of window.
But if the windows don't get frozen, it sounds like a battery/ECU problem. Bad battery, or bad battery/ground connection. Throttle re-learning usually occur when you unplug the battery (ECU lose power). |

I've had the window issue multiple times before, but in my experience it's not the car "unlearning" anything. As mentioned above, it's simply because the window is frozen.
Because our doors are pillar-less, the window glass moves down half an inch when you open the door (to clear the seal), and then moves up by the same amount when you shut the door. This allows the window glass to "seat" inside the window seal when the door is closed, making it harder to break in to the car (old cars with pillarless doors were way easier to break into because you could just pull the window out enough to get a slim jim in there, which is why this features exists now). If there is ice on the window near the bottom seal, and the glass is frozen, the glass will not be able to move down as intended when you open the door. This confuses the window motor, because it detects the resistance, and it goes into "panic mode", most likely to prevent any damage to the window motor/regulator. When this happens, you will notice the backlighting on your window switch on the driver's door will be flashing, and the window will not move up again automatically as it normally would when you shut the door. Doing the window "reset" trick just resets the window settings back to normal again. It's not that the car has "unlearned" or "forgotten" anything; it just pops into that mode when it detects too much resistance on the window glass, to avoid damaging any window motor components. Good luck!

The reason that they go up and down is simply so that they don't smack full force against the seal every time you close the door and to make a better seal. Used to have nothing but problems with the old frame less windows since closing the door would eventually actually cut the seal. I like the feature myself.

I had the window freeze issue a few times; the dealer has a reflash which make it less likely to go into the panic mode by reducing the amount of window drop when opening the door, and raising the resistance threshold.
The sluggish engine thing happens occasionally when it's very cold out, and the motor itself hasn't warmed up yet...I was thinking it more as cam timing not advancing as aggressively at low rpms under load, probably due to cold oil temp. But I suppose it could be a simple throttle response issue. Either way, it's nothing that needs resetting in my case.

My cold weather issues
- A lot more rattles from the interior; the rear deck lid and and something from the front driver side interior. Cold plastic noise of two pieces rubbing when hitting bumps - Much harder to shift into lower gears when cold, have to double clutch when downshifting into 2nd. Sometimes does a little grind before slipping into gear. Sometimes impossible to get into 1st when rolling at over 6km/h even with double clutching. Shifting issues go away once trans fluid is warmed up. -Clutch pedal stiffer (Normal for all cars really, a fresh DOT4 clutch fluid replacement would definitely help) -Weak window motors. Have frozen stuck with just a slight buildup of ice. -Have been unable to get into my car because of frozen windows and the "Open door, window rolls down slightly" design. Had to get into my car through the trunk and dropping the rear seats, scrape the ice around the window, then slowly try to open the door while pushing the window down slightly. If I wasn't careful I would have broken the window for sure. |

The service manual Subaru/Toyota uses calls it the "RESET (INITIALIZE) POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR Procedure" It appears this could be attributed to low batteries on cars as well as the service manual says this needs to be done in 3 conditions:

I have the same issues with the car acting sluggish in the cold - Does it until the engine is all the way up to temp. My suspension is also much, much stiffer in the cold. It's actually a pain to drive at the minute, as even small cracks/seams in the road surface cause loud bangs
