I am picking it up at 4:00 as it finally got off the boat and to my state. I'll post a very detailed review, comparison, pros cons, similarities, pics, likes, dislikes, and other impressions as I've seen a few of these threads pop up before
![]() I got choked up cleaning out my fr-s though. That car left an impression on me like no other car I've owned. But for personal reasons I just had to let it go... Anyways, I'll update later tonight! UPDATE old car ![]() new car ![]() ![]() Review ok its late im not using punctuation but here goes my insightful insights 1.) Weight Compared to the frs, this feels heavy. The steering feels heavier (in a good way), the car feels so much heavier (in a bad way), and the 'peppy' or 'zippiness' of the frs is something that I miss. I immediately took out the spare tire, selling my woofers, and considering racing seats 2.) AWD omg i missed this. It is superior to the evo x awd system, confidence inspiring in any scenario (probably), and I do NOT miss being scared to drive my frs in the rain on my prius tires. I offroaded it once (yes really), and it is just amazing. 3.) drifting You can set the c.diff to the rear and turn lsd lock off AND traction off by pressing and holding it for 3 seconds and then putting the car into S# mode in order to slide a little bit when its raining. It takes like 12 buttons in 10 seconds to slide. The frs took one foot. But hey, different kind of car! snow drifting at walmart rally lots will be fun. 4.) speed I had an frs that was dyno tuned, and had no cats, invidia exhaust, some kinda intake, no spare tire, and it was nowhere NEAR as fast as this thing is stock. the sti is faster than the evo was stock due to the 2.5L non-rally spec engine, and the turbo feels like it hits harder. I cannot get over how fast this car is. max psi seen is 17.1, and boy did that feel nice. 5.) looks refer to pictures compare decide i think the frs looks better, but this is also very very very pretty in person. pics dont do justice 6.) neckbreaking frs - yes sti - yes, but mostly dudes 7.) utility better than frs. 4 seats, big trunk, creature comforts. Im not saying the frs isnt good, i drove from houston to LA with an entire apartments worth of crap in my frs, but it was painful. Sti is more convenient. 8.) gas mileage look at my sig, and tell me if you think I drive my car out of boost 24/7. I get like 10 to the gallon. my Evo got 6 though, so there's that. Frs wins by a landslide 9.) community on the forums, both communities are great! on the road, some frs/brz owners used to give me weird looks like they resented seeing another one. some waved and smiled! some were 45 year old women driving automatic ones. all sti owners i see on the road are ecstatic and wave and it feels great. Not saying frs community was bad, but some 16yo hotshots would look at me and be like 'wut i got one too grandpa' weirdly enough, more frs owners wave to me or thumbs up in my sti than in my frs. 10.) last thoughts Before I die, I WILL buy another frs. I have a little heartache. Honestly, I cried in the bathroom at the dealer for a sec. I loved it. It wasn't fast. I loved it. It handled amazingly and was low to the ground. I loved it. It broke necks. I loved it. I miss it, and must get another one when I can afford two sports cars. buuuuuttttt...........the sti is a blast, and tied for first place among all the cars I've owned! hmu with any questions or if you live around me and wanna drive my car :p

Not sure when I'll sell my FR-S if ever, but like you it'll be a sad day. Congrats on the new car though! I had an STI and loved it - you'll be all smiles the first time you do 4-wheel power slides in the snow or rain.

Congrats! the new WRX is a fun car, and I'm sure the STI doesn't disappoint either. If you're anything like me, or several other members you will still miss the 86. Both have their benefits though! Post pics when you pick her up.

Love STI butter smooth shifter. STI is a great car, the only thing I wish different is EJ257.

I did the opposite. Went from a 2012 STi to FRS after the engine in the STi blew up at 36k miles.

Lol you guys hahaha. I loved snow drifting in my evo, but this is my first car that will stay stock, and isn't meant for hooning. My profession dictates a less dorifuto image I need to portray and my fr-s set off car alarms. Anyways I'm in a parking lot letting things sit for a sec, but I am going the aggressive break in route. Based purely on personal and anecdotal experience.
First 100-200 miles need to have the driver put all amounts of load in all parts of the power band in all gears (except wot in sixth at 1k rpm obviously...u know what I mean). Lots of engine braking to set the seals, and I'm doing 90% throttle every ten minutes, increasing the rpm I stop at by 500 each time, starting at 4000 until I finally get to redline. And it's working. My 350z was a turd cuz I followed the manufacturers recommended break-in procedure which I'm convinced was written by lawyers to deny warranties. My evo X was like 1/2 the speed of other gsr'so that has owners that just hammered them. (Evo drivers can't help it...) until I modified it to the point where it was just a headache, living in fear of knock and over boost and lean afr's. Be smart when messing with fi... My fr-s pulled like a dragonknight tank in eso who has no patience for people buffing up because I drove it with no rhyme or reason to how fast how often high aggressively or how long I drove it during the break in period. /justification for not babying my car. It pulls harder every ten minutes. Gonna change the oil at 500 miles tho.
