HU + Amp Suggestions ? (SQ build, Hybrid Audio C61-2)
Hey all,
Been away from the audio scene for quite a bit, curious if anyone else has any suggestions for direction on upcoming SQ build. Currently have : Hybrid audio technology Clarus C62-1, planning on running active 12" SI Mag v4 d2 Was thinking on purchasing a Pioneer DEH-80prs for my HU, and an Alpine PDX-V9 for amp. Any experienced audiophiles here with FRS's that can throw in their 2 cents? Kind of wanted a double din screen to retain a rear backup camera, but couldn't find an good quality 2 dins that support high fidelity functionality. Planning on doing full install with MLV, CCF, CLD tiles.. Amp will probably be mounted on trunk lid. Anyone have estimation on length of speaker wires/RCA's from HU to that location?

Plan sounds good so far. If you can, cross the hats in the doors at 80hz and 24db/oct. What cld will you be using?

Was looking at an amazon alternative that I found:
CLD [ame="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PCLPXXQ/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687662&pf_rd_s= lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00URUIKAK&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX 0DER&pf_rd_r=09CS9XH32ARSF5TM2258"]Noico 80 mil[/ame] CCF [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Noico-Automotive-Insulation-Self-adhesive-Deadening/dp/B00URV8MFC/ref=pd_bxgy_263_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=06DCF949DZF14GRGG C9P"]Close Cell Foam[/ame] MLV 1/2 lb MLV Ordering: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender-DS-110N-1-Pound-Compound/dp/B000BO8XD6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_ act_title_3&smid=A1SV1BYDTUK2Z5"]Duct Seal Compound (for around speaker baffles)[/ame] Metra wire harness and antenna adapter Been looking at options, before I went with second skin damplifier.. but they're really pricey now. I've heard the C6 mids are great crossed at 64 hz but that will come to experimentation. Also considering how to mount the tweeters..Wanting to buy the amp at least from an authorized dealer. So will probably order it from sonic electronix. Found the pioneer deh-80prs headunit on jet.com for 215.

If you haven't seen it yet, check this link out.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102610 I didn't get the chance to test noico for damping, but it does hold up to 400 degrees in the heat testing. My personal recommendation based on my testing is Sound Deadener Showdown's CLD Sheets. They are the absolute best weight to performance product out there, and is very reasonably priced. The reason I suggested 80hz, is that I have a pair of L6SE's. I actually sent them off to have the analyzed by someone who did Klippel testing, which is the most advanced speaker test procedure out there. It tells you what the speakers real xmax is, based on distortion. The L6SE is rated from Hybrid Audio at 9.5mm of xmax, but the Klippel showed that the speakers reach 10% distortion at 3.2mm. What that meant was that they really couldn't be crossed under 63hz, and would be better at 80hz. I would expect a similar experience with the Clarus midrange. |

Ah fair enough. I am somewhat familiar too with Klippel. I also sub various threads on diyma. Sweet !
I'll have to look into SDS cld tiles. I browsed through your tests, pure gold! The SDS tiles are only 6x10 inches though, which is about .42 sq ft.. Would need quite a bit of tiles to get the coverage I had in mind. I feel the noico would be a cheaper alternative albeit perhaps not as superior. Any idea on how much deadener total I will need? I estimated about 80 sq ft MLV, 50 sq or so CLD, 60 sq ft of CCF ?? And if you dont mind, how did you aim your tweets? edit: I 'll def try crossing them at 80

Look into sds cld sheet, it's different than his cld tiles. It's a little thinner, lighter, and performs slightly better than dynamat extreme. It's also cheaper per square foot than cld tiles and comes in 1'x2' pieces.
I would expect to use around 100 sq ft of ccf. Need at least as much as the mlv. |

Ah I didn't see their CLD sheets.. that makes it a little more affordable. However for 36 sq ft, that's roughly 100$ vs. Noico at 66$ for same amount. Was there that drastic of a difference in the performance between brands ?
Also, I'm kind of split between the DEH-80PRS and a different double din.. I saw a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX for sale on diyma for ~450$. Granted the double din doesn't have the same features as the 80PRS. I really just want a screen so I can at least retain a backup cam + optional front cam. If I run the DEH-80PRS I will probably be a running a tiny aux screen or aftermarket rear view mirror in tandem to allow me to retain the options. I suppose, running a double DIN; I could even go a different route with the build and go passive.. Get a stronger 2 channel to drive the components and run a dedicated mono for the subwoofer. Would I be sacrificing quite a bit running passive vs. active??

I'm not able to absolutely say, as I didn't get to test the noico, although I have some. My hunch is that sds performs better, but I can't guarantee that.
As for running active, it's a huge sacrifice to run passive vs active in a car. Check out the following thread, but pay close attention to post #36. I know the guy mentioned in that post personally and have judged his car. With just processing, he made stock bose speakers and a stick bose amp score almost as well as the extreme class cars in sound quality competition. |

Fair enough. Active it is ! I didn't get the link to that thread!
The double din unit still has autoEQ and time alignment capabilities. I'm thining it'll be good enough for a simple 2 way active setup that i'm going for. The 80PRS though.. oh man.. torn between the two. More features, or pure SQ goodiness. Edit: I see the link now

Time alignment and auto eq may be enough, just kind of depends on your expectations and experience.

i started by running the 80prs in my brz. was happy with the quality, but the bluetooth didn't show any song titles which drove me nuts, so i ditched it for a avh-x7800bt. that still does full active(info is sporadic about it, but it asks you at first power-on) biggest difference is it has an 11 band over a 13 band eq in the 80prs, and obviously the touch screen bits. but both have t/a and auto eq. bad experience in the past with an older unit and constant headaches after using t/a(actual headaches from the change in acoustics) means i've never tried it. a lot of the avh units support full active outputs, major downside is that tweeter highpass only goes down to 1.2khz or so--same problem with the 80prs though. in my last car that downside kicked me into building a carpc for full active so i could run any x-over freq i wanted. i'm currently running 2" fullrange drivers in the dash as my 'tweeters', so had to run them as standard speakers with a 200hz x-over.
