Recommended Coilovers

Hey guys,

Hopefully looking to get some Coilovers one of these days and im wondering what everyone recommends. Im not looking to break the bank, but im also not trying to cheap out because going cheap is often a bad idea. Im mostly looking to get rid of the god awful wheel gap, but not to go so low that I scrape on everything. The STI areo kit that came with the car already fucks me daily. Ive heard the ST coils are pretty good for their price, and BC are okay as well. But please Chime in to what you guys think!

Price range?
Since you mentioned ST's, I will recommend the Tein Flex Z.
And...

Yeah good luck, opinions run the full gamut. All I can tell you is what we have tried on our 2 86 builds. We have 5 sports cars all on coils ranging from KW V3 to Buddy Club Race Spec to JIC Magic. On the BRZ and FRS we went with ISC N1 coilovers, "Race/Track" valving on one, and "Street Sport" valving on the other. They have been great, and fall within your budget. The race valved are pretty stiff, as you would expect, and the street valved are ideal for most people, with a good ride and car control in the corners. We went with 8k springs on the Street valving, and 6k on the Race valved, but we do a lot of spirited driving in the mountains, so if you're more focused on comfort, you might go down 1 or 2k on the springs. (You can specify spring rates when ordering from most places.)

You can also spring (get it) for their coilover covers if you want to keep them from getting dirty/rusty. We run them on both and it makes a noticeable difference.

Hope that helps. Good luck with whatever you go with!

Everyone will say KW v3 because they ignored your price estimate. I've heard bad things about BC but I've never tried them. I use Stance coils, cost about 1200$. I've heard great things about the Z Flex from Tein. Can't say ice heard about any bad ones other than BC so probably anything in your price range. Definitely suggest getting something from the "for sale" area on the forum. Great deals top be had there

If your goal is to use the car as a DD the only real choice in your budget (in my opinion) is the Tein Flex Z. Not sure why anyone would consider anything else for DD purposes... completely adjustable, and very comfortable for the street. And $750.

Oh shit, I didn't realize the ZFlex was so cheap. Yes, buy those.

You might want to consider the ST XTA's since they are in your price range. They have a few features that you might value over the Flex Z's.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Tein Flex Z. I will link @CSG Mike 's review thread on here. If you are only interested in street/ DD driving the Tein Flex Z is the best option to go as they are affordable and make good comfort settings, not to mention they're fully adjustable and have camber adjustment settings.

The flex z's do have camber adj? Ive been looking at them and the top plates do not look like they can adjust camber. New rims will be an addition at some point so camber adj. will be a good thing to have.

if you're not tracking and don't need the extra clearance for wide wheels, then why not save some money and just get lowering springs + camber bolts? inexpensive coilovers can come with compromises that you might not like for a DD.

I might be getting wheels in the near future, thats why id rather just get coils now instead of buying springs and then eventually getting coils when i realized i needed them. plus id like to go a little lower than springs offer.
