Repainting Halo White (Pearl) bumper and fender - colour matching
So I took delivery of a 2015 FR-S Halo White and it was in a dirty condition. On close inspection it turned out to have a bunch of small rock chips on the front bumper, a small one on one of the mirrors, and a deep gash in the side fender.
I was planning to get a clear bra installed ASAP with some Opticoat, so I was pretty disappointed but the dealership said they would repaint it without issue pending authorization from Toyota for the damage from shipping. The body shop informed me that it would be difficult to match the pearl, and sure enough it is pretty clearly different in certain lighting. The chips are also still there as indentations but painted (the whole thing was resprayed). I also can't put on a clearbra for at least 30 days meaning I'm probably going to get more rock chips before I can get one on. Does anyone have experience/advice with repainting pearl whites and dealing with delivery damage issues? I was really looking forward to having a new car in mint condition for at least a little while. I'm pretty generally unhappy with the purchase at this point. I could've gotten an older used model for much cheaper. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but The Halo White and the Satin Pearl White are different colour codes entirely. The Halo white is a pure bright white, and the SPW obviously has a pearly sheen to it, which makes it a little darker/creamier. With both cars next to each other, the SPW would look a little dirty in comparison.
Could that have been the problem? And I'm sorry for the trouble you're having. In 30 days I can't imagine the bumper or anything could take too much damage. I would wait out the month, and if anything does arise, buy a touch-up paint kit, touch it up, and get the clear bra. If done well, no one'll ever know unless you point it out. It looks pretty off at the moment, more of a difference than the usual margin for bumper discolouration. I'm curious if they'll actually be able to fix it to the point that it looks like the new car I paid MSRP for. Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk |

If I was buying a new car and it was damaged before I even drove it, I would be waiting for the "other" new one they deliver that is in new condition and let them worry about the paint damage for the first one.

To match the bumper on a pearl paint they will need to blend the hood and fenders. Anything else will look slightly off. There should also not be any indents where the rock chips were -- they should sand the paint down and put on a whole new base. It's a lot of work and it sounds like they did a shitty job to save money.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to refuse a car that's delivered to you with damaged paint. Ask for a new one.

I unfortunately already took delivery on it. They assured me it could be fixed properly like new but the body shop guy later clarified it would be tough. I have to bring it in again next week for them to fix the indentations left over and the bumps in new paint that seem like pieces of dust.
